The file also includes one page of typed notes on the history of the Elsternwick Club with accompanying handwritten notes, dated 1981 and signed by Betty Snowball and C Pullman. The file also includes a one page printout of an email from Jan Brooks to the Glen Eira Historical Society, dated 19/10/2009, regarding the history of the Elsternwick Club, her family’s connection to the original club owners and general information about her family. Three three page extracts from Andrew Ward’s 1994 Caulfield Conservation Study on commercial buildings in Glen Huntly Road, Elsternwick. The three studies concern Moore’s Buildings 1891 shops at 305-313 Glen Huntly Road, shops at 323-329 Glen Huntly Road and E J Buckeridge’s Buildings 1911 shops at 357-371 Glen Huntly Road. The studies describe the buildings’ architectural features, provide a historical overview and statements of the buildings’ significance, especially in relation to the Land Boom and commercial development between 1890 to the 19020s. The trowel was presented to Revd. William Henderson, founder and first Headmaster of Ballarat College, by H R Caselli, Architect, on the occasion of his laying the Foundation Stone of Ballarat College, 12 September 1874. The building was erected beside St. Andrew's Kirk in Sturt Street, Ballarat. The trowel was donated by Revd. Henderson's son, Charles James Henderson, on 1 May 1920 along with a small silver plaque. In 1924, the trowel was used by Brigadier-General H E 'Pompey' Elliott, CB, CMG, DSO, DCM to lay the Foundation Stone of Memorial Hall, Ballarat College on 9 June 1924 (Memorial Hall opened 8 June 1925). A small silver plaque commemorates this event.Ornate, sterling silver, elongated-heart-shaped trowel with turned wooden handle. The top of the trowel plate is engraved with a detailed scroll and leaf design around edges and an inscription in the middle. The back of trowel plate is plain except for a small manufacturer's stamp. The trowel is accompanied by two small sterling silver inscribed plaques. Engraved inscription: 'Presented to / The Revd Wm Henderson / BALLARAT/ By / H. R. Caselli / Architect / on the occasion of his laying the / FOUNDATION STONE / OF THE / BALLARAT COLLEGE / 12th Sept. 1874.' Manufacturer's stamp on back of trowel plate: 'J. T. Twenty-five books donated by old collegian Francis Tweedie and possibly his sister Miss E M Tweedie. Francis Tweedie entered Ballarat College in 1889. He was the son of Mrs Tweedie 60 Doveton St, and attended with his brother Alec. The school holds no record of Miss E M Tweedie's attendance. Some of the books contain the signatures of Andrew Anderson and May Anderson. Their connection to the donors is unknown at this point. Example of ongoing old collegian support of school. Edmund Fox Moore (7/4/1884 - 4/10/1917) entered Ballarat College 6 March 1899 (peer year 1901). Son of Edmund Notley Moore and Josephine nee Fox, of 'Myra' Sturt St, brother of Otuel Alan Moore (peer year 1903). Previously studied at Haileybury IV Form. Edmund served in World War I and was killed in action in Belgium in October 1917. This item is the 1900 Ballarat College Senior Cup which was won by E F Moore. The Senior Cup was awarded to boys who were good 'all-rounders'.
