Bogong Village was built for the workers of the State Elecricity Commission of Victoria who were employed to construct the Kiewa Hydro electric Scheme. This photo shows their homes and offices etc., Lake Guy and the spillway during construction days.Bogong village was built as part of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. Emma Keys was born in England in 1842 to parents Charles Keys and Mary Ann, née Black. She married George Henry Smith in 1860, after which they sailed from Liverpool bound for Happy Valley. Emma and George Smith had fourteen children. The subject is identified in the early LDHS index to photographs as Samuel Lewers. It is not clear whether this means the Samuel Lewers who was the first manager of the Bank of New South Wales in Linton, or his son Samuel, who was granted a soldier-settler block at Mannibadar after World War I.Enlarged black and white copy of original photograph, mounted on card.
