This music stand belonged to Eva Veronica Gaspar. Miss Gaspar (1913 -1978) was one of Warrnambool's most notable musicians and photographers. She gave free music lessons to Warrnambool and district children, organised choral festivals and ran a printing business. She was a life member of the Warrnambool Music Society and organized the Mozart Music Festival for many years. She was a Warrnambool Citizen of the Year 1956 and was awarded a British Empire Medal in 1972 for her services to music. She also conducted the Warrnambool Civic Orchestra, St. Joseph's church choir, junior choirs and recorder groups. In 1977 she held an exhibition at the Warrnambool Art Gallery of her photographs, drawings and monochromes. This music stand was used by Eva Gaspar mainly in Mozart Hall in Gilles Street. This stand is of interest as a memento of the work of Eva Gaspar an important musician in Warrnambool in the twentieth century.This is a wooden music stand with a circular base on four feet. The base has an outer ridge with a shallow indent and a domed top into which the pedestal is attached. The pedestal has decorative features . The ledge at the top is rectangular shaped with a projecting curved edge at the base. The top has a compartment for holding music and/or notes. The pedestal is attached to the top tray with a circular brace and metal screws. The whole item has been varnished but is stained and rubbed. These two bottles were found by workmen building a new retaining wall on the north side of the Les O’Callaghan History House building in Gilles Street Warrnambool. The wall replaced one damaged beyond repair following a car accident in 2019. The building was erected in 1889 as the caretaker’s cottage in the Warrnambool Sea Baths complex (for most of its existence it had two swimming pools, a hot sea water baths building and a caretaker’s cottage). The water in the baths were pumped up from the ocean and, for the hot baths, heated on site. These baths were the municipal baths until the mid 1950s. The bottles may have originated from the one of the families residing in the cottage or from passers-by in the adjoining Merri Street or from patrons of the baths. They appear to be over 100 years old but there is no way the ownership of the bottles can be established.These bottles are of interest as archeological finds after repair works to the Les O’Callaghan History House. .1 A dark green (or black?) glass bottle with a hollowed out concave base, no stopper and a slightly chipped rim on the top. This black and white image appears on page 9 "Painters and Pioneers: One hundred years of Eltham and its Shire" by Alan Marshall (1971). (It is incorrectly acknowledged as S.T. Gill in the acknowledgements). It relates to Chapter 1 "The Beginning" and the description of explorer's Joseph Gellibrand journey through the area (and beyond) of the area now known as Eltham and wider Shire of Nillumbik. Gellibrand was accompanied by male aborigines. William Macleod (1850-1929) was a contributor to the "Picturesque Atlas of Australia" 1886. Described in "The Daily Telegraph" 21 June 1924 :"Macleod is a preserver of the scenic records of his own time, inasmuch as he has furnished posterity with many view of towns, rivers, and other localities, as they appeared in the years 1886-8. These booklets were issued in 1944 to 1948 by the Warrnambool Progress and Tourist Association(established in 1927). Warrnambool was the winner of the Sun News Pictorial Quest in 1928, the ‘Ideal City’ and used this title to promote the city. There had been several Tourist Associations in Warrnambool prior to 1927 and all of them promoted Warrnambool as a health resort and an ideal holiday destination with the Sea Baths in Gilles Street and the beach close by. These guides were produced during and immediately post World War Two with rationing of petrol and other goods and most people in Victoria would not have been contemplating long and expensive holidays so Warrnambool with its rail service and beach facilities would have been seen as a possible holiday destination. The booklets contain information on the tourist attractions of Warrnambool and district, black and white photographs of buildings, events and scenic spots and advertisements for local businesses. Many of the advertisements also contain photographs of business premises.These booklets are of interest as they contain photographs of Warrnambool in the mid to late 1940's and advertisements for many business operating at that time.[.1] 56 page booklet. The apricot cover has red printing and a picture of a young woman holding a beach ball aloft on the front. The white pages have black printing & blue coloured photographs. The last page is pink. The Marist Brothers arrived in Bendigo in 1893 and began classes for boys in makeshift classrooms at St Killians. By the next year they had moved to a permanent school in McCrae Street. The EP-1 "Spruce Goose" sailplane was designed and built by Ted Pascoe in 1955 as a smaller than average single seat sailplane that could be operated by two or three people. At times it was launched by auto-towing by Ted Pascoe and his wife without the aid of a third person at the wing tip. The glider exhibited good soaring capability and was used for some cross country flights. For instance, in 1956 Ted Pascoe succeeded in a 36 mile goal flight during which he attained a maximum height of 4500 feet. It was flown at the Mt Gambier Gliding Club from 1956 until about 1961. The Log Book shows that it was flown at Everard in 1961 and at Everard, Waikerie, Gawler and Keith in 1962. There is a gap in flying record for this aircraft from 1962 until 1967. From 1967 to 1972 it was flown regularly at various places in South Australia including Whitwarta, Stonefield, Renmark, and Gawler. For many years it was owned and flown by Mervyn Gill of the Balaklava Gliding Club.The EP-1 glider is an example of a successful Australian home built design from the 1950s. A photo of L/ Stan Savige with Miss Enez Domec-Carre and Mrs Gilles some of the senior girls. It was at an annual demonstration in the late 1940s or early 1950s as it was published in the newsletter with the news of Legatee Savige dying in 1954. The senior girls are all in their gymnastics outfits with Legacy logo. These were provided free of charge to Junior Legatees attending the weekly classes run by Legacy. Mrs Gillies was the first instructress of Girls' Classes. Throughout the year Melbourne Legacy provided classes for Junior Legatees such as dancing, gymnastics and Eurythmics. The Demonstration was an annual event to showcase their skills. Melbourne Legacy conducted Annual Demonstrations / Parades from 1928 through to the 1980's, usually held at Melbourne Town Hall or Olympic Pool Stadium. The beautiful costumes were made by members of the Junior Legacy Mothers' Club and the Melbourne Legacy Wives' Association. Miss Enez Domec-Carre was the supervisor of girls classes and instrumental in the Annual Demonstration for many years.
