Hat
Royal Australian Navy officer's peaked cap with a woven dark navy band and off-white piqued top in synthetic material. Patent leather peak is black with green underside. The cap has a black patent leather chin strap that runs across the top of the peak, secured on left and right with press stud buttons. Above the peak is an embroidered insignia of the Royal Australian Navy, a crown with an anchor underneath. Hat brim is stiffened by foam and bears a brown leather band with punched holes, presumably for ventilation. The interior lining is black.Interior tag at back of hat reads "59". This hat was worn by D. P. Bright, whilst serving in the Royal Australian Navy, presumably on the H.M.A.S. Leeuwin.Sailor's hat with removable ribbon which sits on exterior band with machine embroidered inscriptions, tied in a bow at the back. Hat is piqued, stiffened white cotton with two white eyelets on both left and right side. Dark navy band on exterior with brown leather lining on the interior, with cotton bow on interior back. On interior of hat, the hat contains a plastic lining on which there is an inscription. On either side of the inscription is a strip of beige coloured cotton lining in the shape of a semi circle (see photos).On ribbon, "H.M.A.S. LEEUWIN" On interior, "BRIGHT. D.P. Hat Service Dress Woman's
WRAAC service dress hat with a split brim in dark green, turned down at the front and up at the rear, and a three-panel crown in light green. A light green half hat band with a rising pointed peak at the front is affixed to the hat with black elastic. An anodised aluminium Ordnance Corps hat badge is attached to the centre front of the band. The internal sweat band line is lined with black velveteen and the remainder of the inside of the crown with green nylon. Eyeshields, Anti-Gas MK 11 (WWII)
Card board box containing 3 individual envelopes (originally held 6) that hold one piece transparent plastic eye shield visors mounted on leather band with felt forehead comfort strip held by 3 staples. At the end of the leather band two lengths of black elastic material straps with one having a small hook and the other having small ring and when joined secure the shield to the wearers head. The elastic bands are secured to the leather using press studs which clip into two studs in the plastic visor to make the visor fit around the wearers face. The cardboard box is made of heavy duty cardboard with opening at one end to access the envelopes. The envelopes are beige manila type and not sealed. On cardboard Box a label - EYESHIELDS,ANTI-GAS, MK11 AIR SPRAY Action to be taken within ten minutes in the following order to prevent blisters--. 1. COTTON WASTE: Swab liquid off exposed skin. 2. OINTMENT: Rub hard on exposed skin for 1 minute. 3. EYESHIELD: Change. 4. CLOTHING: If detector shows large drops, remove or cut away as necessary. If cape "worn" swab off liquid. SMALL drops :no action. 5. OINTMENT: Rub on skin now exposed. 6. DETECTORS: If possible, remove and renew. (Tippet or Armlet). 7. WEAPONS: Decontaminate. 8. OINTMENT: Re-apply to hands.
