Stamps, 150th Anniversary
This stamp was used for official correspondence, minutes etc by the Warrnambool 150th Anniversary Committee in 1997. The occasion was the 150th anniversary year of the establishment of Warrnambool in 1847. The President of the Committee was Frank Jacobs and the Secretary was Gordon Reid. The donor of the stamp was a member of the Co-ordinating Committee.This stamp is part of the collection of items from Warrnambool’s 150th celebrations in 1997. It has no intrinsic value but the stamp may be used for future historical exhibitions.This is a modern self-inking stamp which stamps out ‘Warrnambool 150th Anniversary Co-ordinating Committee’. The Malvern Tramways Band (Stonnington City Brass) was one of the leading brass bands in Victoria and Australia for many years. The conductor, Mr Harry Shugg, arrived to conduct the band in 1915 having previously been conductor of the Geelong Harbour Trust Band. Harry Shugg went on to conduct the band for an amazing 31 years where they won numerous competitions. On the back of the postcard is a handwritten message dated 16/12/1921 from Harry Shugg to a M. W. BoinaThis postcard is significant as it presents an photo of a very famous band and their conductor. It is also significant as it has a message on the back written by Mr Harry Shugg with no address which means that the postcard was handed to the recipient. It is part of a series of four postcards which show the different groups that Harry Shugg conducted over his lifetime.Rectangular black and white photograph printed on a postcard. This fossil was found by Peter Cook just west of East Cape at Cape Conran (east of Orbost),. Original correspondence re its identification came from Andy Murray - Conservation & Natural Resources, Orbost. It was on display at the Orbost Visitor Information Centre - the Slab Hut.A fossil tooth from a marine species.
