Clothing. Pair of short, men's gloves, with three 6 cms long pin-tucks fanned out across the back of the hand. Wrist edge of the glove is bound in the glove fabric, giving a .5 cm binging, which continues around a 7 cm opening at the inside of the wrist. Object. A 5 cm long ribbon, woven in a heavy weave, with a .75 cm red vertical stripe on each side, and a 1.5 cm vertical light blue stripe in the centre. Three .75 cm bands of brass metal - a shaped strip at top and bottom of the fabric, with a rectangular shaped clasp in the centre. These three clasps have decorative engraved patterns. The lower clasp- called a suspender, has a circular hook at the bottom, from which is suspended a circular brass fitting, holding a metal link, which is attached to a four sided shape, with letters in a circular shape - HTWSSTKS, Lodge symbols are on each side of this perspex shaped hanging. Object. A 4.5 cm long suspended from a brass curved and decorated clasp at the top, to which is attached at the back, a 6.5 cm long pin , to attach to the wearers garment. Clothing. Gloves are bound at the wrist, and around a 7 cms long opening on the inside of the wrist. This opening fastens with a white plastic button 1.5 cm in diameter, and a hand-stitched button. Neither button or button hole appears to be original. On the back of the hand are three 7 cm long rows of stitching-appearing to be double rows, but done in one stitching action. Object. An elaborate item, with a light blue grosgrain ribbon background. An arched and a straight bar at the top state CORONA LODGE. A crown with fanned background, under which is a plinth and a clasp stating No 195 V.C. Below this is an inverted ^shape, highly engraved with a Greek eternity pattern, and decorative scrolling. By the end of the day, one of the strongest positions on the Western Front had fallen, a place of such importance that the Germans had pledged to hold it at any cost. It was the greatest British victory in three years of war. The first two years of the First World War had represented an almost unending catalogue of disaster for the Australians. Messines was not only their first real victory, it was also the first test in senior command for Major General John Monash who commanded the newly formed 3rd Division and would later be hailed as Australia's greatest soldier. Messines was a baptism of fire for the 3rd Division which came into the line alongside the battle-scarred 4th Australian Division, badly mauled at Bullecourt just six weeks earlier in one of the worst defeats of the war.
