Set of 16 mixed SEC tickets found in Ballarat No. 18, behind the north side sandboxes No. 2 end 6/12/1997. Tickets have been used and have varying degrees of dirt. The image file shows the nature of the damage. Tickets have not been individually numbered with the Registration Number, but can be identified by their ticket number and denomination. All SEC penny or pre decimal tickets with one SEC decimal issue. All on white paper unless otherwise noted. Folded, dark green cloth backed pass or authority with a typed sheet glued to the inside as a "XVIth Olympiad - 1956 Official Transport Authority" appointing the bearer (L. J. Denmead) as a Transport Official during the period of the 1956 Olympic Games. States that bearer not entitled to entrance to spectator areas, that the bearer will wear a "Red and White arm band" and that the person has authority to give directions on behalf of the Olympic Transport Committee. Signed by "O.C. Henshall, Secretary of the Committee in ink. The name of the bearer has been entered in blue ink. Stored flat. Carbon copy of a certificate or a notice of the event of SEC Ballarat No. 27 reaching a million miles in service in Ballarat at 3.10pm on 29 June 1968. Gives details of the tram history and signed by Mr. L. J. Denmead, Departmental Tramways Supt., Mr. F. K. White, Branch Manager and Mr. A. N. Smith, Engineer and Manager. Typed on copy paper with a faint watermark "EURNT BANR MADE IN AUST". Was attached on donation to item 1850, with a pin in top left hand corner. Separated for storage. See image file for arrangement on donation. Note: Later review by D. Macartney in early 80's? found that the SEC had miscalculated the distance travelled by 100,000 miles. Functional Object - Employee's Pass, Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board (MMTB), 20/08/2001 12:00:00 AM
Dark green cloth enveloping two pieces of cardboard, joined together with the cloth, printed on the outside with the MMTB logo and the words "Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board / EMPLOYEE'S PASS / 1947". On the inside, two pre printed pieces of off white paper have been glued to the cloth covered cards. The top card has been over stamped using a hand stamp machine with the Number "8478" and overprinted in purple ink " ' 47". Space for the name of the employee, occupation and for authorising signature of the Board Secretary has been provided. The bottom section details the conditions of use and space for the employees signature. Ticket issued to "L. J. Denmead", "Inspector" and signed by "R.A. Spencer"? as Board Secretary and signed by "Leslie Denmead". All entries made in black ink. These passes would have been issued as part of the conditions of employment. Attached to the bottom left hand corner of the photo is part of a cutting from the Courier, giving the name of the people boarding the tram. Photograph and cutting undated - possibly late 1960's. Attachment with a piece of 'sticky tape' On rear of photograph is a Ballarat Courier Copyright stamp. Name of people in photograph are given as: Tramways Superintendent - Mr. L. J. Denmead, Mid-Western Electricity Supply branch manager, Mr. I. F. Pellas, Secretary to the Minister of Transport, Mr. B. Note: Murray Byrne was Minister of Public Works from June 1970 until August 1972. This would narrow down the photo to between June 1970 and September 1971 and probably in 1970. Colour photograph of TMSV tour photo for the 60th anniversary of electric trams in Ballarat in August 1965. Photo of Ballarat No. 18 photographed alongside MMTB AEC Regal Mk III bus, No. 543 (42 seats) (Reg. No. HJG 543). No. 18 has a specially painted board over the front of the tram "60th Anniversary / Electric Trams / 1905 Ballarat 1965". Standing between the tram and Bus are Les Denmead, D. Irvine, J. Dowd and T. Young. Both vehicles showing "Special" and standing on Ballarat depot fan. Photo also appears in "MMTB News", Oct - Nov. 1965, Reg. Item 2719.7. Dave Macartney advised 19/11/01 that other the other official guests at the event was Mr. F. K. White, Manager Ballarat SEC. Also attending was W.J. K. Dunstan. See Reg Item 3496 for a newspaper clipping. See Dave Macartney 18/11/01 - advised of tramcar number and that it took about 3.5 hours to travel from Melbourne to Ballarat by the bus.
