The town borrows its name from the Koroitch Gundidj people who occupied the area prior to European settlement. Around the 1850 the district had the highest population of Irish immigrants in rural Australia. The Koroit Post Office was designed by architect and engineer John Mason of Port Fairy. When the author was six, her father Walter died in Koroit on 1 August 1879 and was buried at the Koroit cemetery. Enterprise bargaining is the process of negotiation generally between the employer and employees (often represented by a trade union, professional association or other bargaining representative) with the goal of making an enterprise agreement stipulating the wages and conditions of work. The 2007 public sector campaign entitled 'Fund nursing properly for a better state of health' involved the ANF bargaining for members employed in the public acute and aged care sector, public psychiatric services, the Australian Red Cross Blood Service and the Royal District Nursing Service. In 2016 the Welcome to Eltham community project started to welcome Syrian refugees into the community and made Welcome Butterflies to say welcome to them. This book includes photos and welcome messages from local residents. The butterlies are based on the Eltham Copper Butterfly, a rare and precious species local to the area and considered a symbol of the beauty and abundance of Eltham that the community wanted to share with the new community.
