Slides showing some of Legacy's work with junior legatees in 1961 and 1962. Most appear to be of Operation Float which was when Melbourne Legacy would take Junior legatees on an outing. It could have been to naval boats such as HMAS Cerberus or to a Yacht club. Photos of a Legacy event or outing to trout farm in the Alexandra Yea area in 1978 - a mix of men and women with fishing rods. Names are unknown other than President David Carter in the brown shirt. Similar photos are in a photo album at 00013 labelled as 'Alexandra/Yea 1978'. The Comradeship committee gathered photos of events and compiled them in a Comradeship photo album for Legatees to look through. Two professional photographs of the "Widow and Children" statue. The statue was commissioned by Legacy and unveiled in 1998 and symbolises the work of Legacy caring for the widows and children of veterans. Sculptured by Louis Laumen for the Legacy Garden of Appreciation, Birdwood Avenue on the Shrine Reserve. The Legacy Garden of Appreciation is in a cruciform shape and features red poppies which flower around Remembrance Day (11 November). The sculpture was dedicated on 29th September 1998 (part of this taken from the Shrine of Remembrance website). Photos of Legacy Widows at a luncheon function after the Widows Sunday ceremony at the Shrine and a church. This is an annual event for Legacy widows at the start of Legacy Week, which is the first week in September. The venue is the Savoy Ballroom at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne. These ladies are the same as those leaving St Michael's church (00527) which on the same film as the wreath laying service at the Shrine with Legacy President David Kelly (00525). Possibly 2000 based on that was the year David Kelly was President of Melbourne Legacy. Names unknown. A group of eight Brighton Grammar Junior School boys holding a plaque with the Legacy torch emblem and 5 men. The photo was featured in The Answer in November 1995. The accompanying story was : FUNDRAISING. The boys from Grade 6 at Brighton Grammar Junior School raised $6,150 from the sale of Legacy badges this year - an increase of $1,550 over last year. Over the past five years the boys have raised in excess of $16,000. We are most grateful for their outstanding efforts. A planting of a pine tree by a man and two school children at what could be a school. There was a service with speeches and a band playing. The venue, names and date are unknown. In the early 1970s Legacy had a commemorative programme of providing trees grown from seeds from Gallipoli to various towns throughout Australia. This may be part of that project (see the Lone Pine brochure at 00593) or subsequent propagation undertaken by Legacy. Melbourne Legacy's Commemoration Committee was responsible for the collection, propagation and dedication of Lone Pines from the 24th Battalion tree at the Shrine of Remembrance. On the 14th September 1989 further seedlings were collected with the hope to raise 1,000 trees from then seeds. Thus, Legacy is helping to keep the memory of the Gallipoli "Lone Pine" alive - its spirit living on today.
