The Tawonga School opened in 1880 for the children of the surrounding farming families. Its enrolment increased when the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme peaked in the 1950's and it continues to educate the children of the local families (town and farm) now (2015). This book covers 100 years of the history of the Kiewa Valley. Pillow cases belonged to Mrs Paul Spidaro and were brought from Italy. They were given to her as a wedding gift in 1920. Paul Spidaro was a bootmaker in Orbost in the 1950's. The donor Mrs Meevwenoord was a bowling friend of the Spidaros.This item is aesthetically significant as an example of early 20th century needlework.Very fine embroidered pillow cases of linen with scalloped edge. Drum Major Margaret Bennett (formerly Reynolds) attended Ballarat Teachers' College in 1949. She was Drum Major for the Ballarat Ladies Pipe Band from 1950-1975. At times Margaret Bennett was a life model for Geoff Mainwaring. Framed portrait of Margaret Bennett as the Drum Major of the Ballarat Ladies' School of Mines. Black & white photograph 20cm x 25cm of the Bendigo Butter Factory in Mundy St., mounted on cardboard. It appears to have been part of a display, with explanatory notes attached to each photograph. See 3713-5b. On the reverse of one photograph is the date 1950-1955, in another is a calendar with March 1957. Also on the board is a blue registration stamp with the words 'Pure creamery, Australia, Victoria regd'. This photograph in the series is of a worker checking samples in a test tube.
