Kit, Spare Parts, 1942
Spare parts kit for the Lamps Signalling Daylight used by the Australian defence forces during World War 2. A small dark green painted metal container with a hinging lid which contains parts and instructions, including three spare lamp bulbs. Within the container there is a smaller tinplate container with a lid which has electrical contacts and connectors. Refer item 00417The container lid has the following inscription: "LAMPS SIGNALLING DAYLIGHT BOX SPARE PARTS MKII" and "PMG 1942" -

Collection, J R Clancy
The recipient of this medal is believed to be VX44669 Private James Robert Clancy of Thougla Upper which was in the Shire of Upper Murray. Private Clancy was born in Sandy Creek on 30 August 1903 enlisted in the Army on 8 July 1940 and was discharged on 8 March 1943. He served in the Signals Section of the 2nd Australian Anti-Aircraft Regiment.Municipalities in Australia recognised their residents who enlisted in World Wars by the issue of some form of recognition. This is a nice example of a medallic form of such recognition.A collection of items presented by the family of WWll Australian Army serviceman James Robert Clancy VX44669. Clancy was a signalman in the 2/2 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment. Refer to items 00456.1, 00456.2, 00456.3 and 00456.4. -

Dressing, Field, John Tye & Son, 1917
Small, packaged First Field Dressing issued to Australian and British service personnel during World War 1. The package is made of a tough, protective (waterproof?) fabric and comes complete with a safety pin for use as a bandage. These were carried by soldiers and used for initial treatment of wounds. An example of the Liberation Medal, fifth class, issued by the government of Kuwait for service during the Liberation of Kuwait campaign in the Gulf War of 1990 to 1993. This medal was provided to eligible Australian service personnel however is not worn as an official service decoration. This medal is engraved with the following; Hillier D. N. service number 322256. These are made of Bronze with coloured enamel features and have a ribbon with red, white and green vertical stripes. The medal complete with a service ribbon, is in a plastic presentation case which is stored in a protective cardboard sleeve. -

World War 2 brass munition cases of Japanese and Australian origins. This is an example of 'trench art' having been made into a flower vase. Vase is a Japanese brass 30mm anti-aircraft shell case with a 1938 Territory of New Guinea silver one shilling coin affixed to the side of the shell case. the top of the case is slighltly splayed to form a decorative lip. Either side of the case are two Australian .303 spent cartridges vertically mounted and attached by two further cut-down .303 cases. Frederick Henry Laurence Rankin (Laurie) VX 139086 was an Australian Army cook who served from May 1943 to June 1945 within Australia (including Darwin). he was born 24/7/1914 at Jumburra, Victoria and enlisted on 27/5/1943 at Clifton Hill, Victoria. His "Next of Kin" was Eunice Rankin. He was discharged on 4 June, 1945 and he was then posted to 2 Australian Field Artillery Regiment. He died on 27 July 1983 and buried at Fawkner Memorial Park.Leather money belt worn during World War 2 military service by Frederick Henry Laurence Rankin, service number VX139086. Framed collection consisting of a large number of World War 1 era military badges and insignia from Australia, New Zealand, Britain and other countries. The collection features a set of three medals as the centrepiece which were awarded to an Australian serviceman, Acting Warrant Officer Alwin Stevens Nicholas, service number 4752 of the 3rd Australian General Hospital, Australian Medical Corp, A.I.F. The metal badges and insignia are mounted on a black felt cloth background over a wooden backing and housed in a wooden frame. Compass, Plane Table, J. W. Handley, 1943
A plane table compass, sometimes referred to as a trough compass, used by surveyors and artillery crew to accurately establish magnetic north. The compass is precision machined of brass material with a long needle to ensure accuracy. The compass scale is marked with a centre zero (for magnetic north) and graduations indicating plus and minus five degrees. The compass is housed in a protective wooden case with a sliding lid. The lid has a brass slide which locks the compass needle during periods when the compass is not in use. This compass is the type used by an artillery unit of the Australian Military Forces during World War 2. This compass was manufactured by J. W. Handley P/L of Melbourne in 1943. Refer 00330 and 00330.2The side of the compass body is stamped: "J.W.H." with the letter "V" under a line, "SERIAL No 1082", MARK.II-D^D-1943". These were... of the ammunition charge clips used during World War 1 by the Australian ...Three examples of the ammunition charge clips used during World War 1 by the Australian and allied forces. These were preloaded with five live rounds of ammunition for the SMLE .303" rifle and were a convenient method of quickly replenishing the 10 round magazine. The clip is made of stamped spring steel with a matte black paint finish. These clips were preloaded with live ammunition and carried in the soldiers ammunition pouches. Whilst in the field the clips were salvaged and reloaded with fresh rounds when the opportunity was available, ie during a lull in battle, etc.Some markings present: two examples are stamped with "E" and "ll", the other is stamped with "K" and "ll". -

United States Army standard issue infantry heavyweight webbing waist belt as worn in World War 1. This is an example of a 'trophy' belt, complete with a souvenir collection of metal insignia, badges and buttons which are attached to the belt. The belt has brass fittings however the original buckle is missing. There are a total of 83 various allied military insignia, badges and uniform buttons from the World War 1 era, 56 metal insignia and badges and 27 metal buttons which are mostly of Australian, New Zealand, Canadian or British origin. Belt manufactured by M W & S Limited of England in 1915.The reverse side of the belt is stamped "M W & S LTD., 1915" and has an "L" stamp and the Defence Department "/|\". The belt reverse also has the following name in black handwriting "A Paxino 9781 2211". Note A Paxino was associated with Frankston RSL Sub Branch for many years. -

Pair of Australian Army standard issue wire cutters issued to infantrymen during World War 2. Wire cutters were carried to cut through defensive barbed wire barriers encountered in the filed. Refer item 00385 and 00385.2 The manufacturer "GREGSTEEL" and "DɅD" are embossed in both sides of the tool.
