Ceremonial object - Ceremonial collar
Ancient Order of Druids was formed in London in 1871. Their motto was "Justice, Philanthropy and Brotherly Love". The Order was established in Australia in 1851.The Sandhurst Lodge 247 met at Queens Head Hotel (Lockwood cross roads) and was first mentioned in the Bendigo Advertiser in 1863.Ceremonial collar in red velvet with gold metallic bullion fringe around outside edge and lower inside edge and gold metallic lace to edge. At one end (LHS) there is a large gold metallic star in sequins and gold metallic bullion. Voting registers, or electoral rolls, are a census of those who were eligible to vote. They are valuable because a country-wide census was not taken until 1911. Early electoral rolls give an individual name, residence, status of property occupation/ownership, and the rate value of the property. Electoral rolls are arranged by electoral district and subdistrict. Name, Address, Occupation and gender for thirteen subdivisions (Bendigo, Carisbrook, Castlemaine, Eaglehawk, Elmore, Golden Square, Heathcote, Maldon, Marong, Maryborough, Raywood, Sandhurst East & Strathfieldsaye). Electoral rolls were published by each state during election years..Electoral Roll for the Commonwealth Division of Bendigo, State Assembly District of Bendigo, and State Electoral Province of Bendigo for 1952 (made up to 8th September 1952). The A.N.A. Hall in View Street was opened in August 1894. The Sandhurst Branch was started on August 26th, 1874. In July 1874, several gentlemen met together, and when a sufficient number had given in their names and sufficient promises of support had been received, the board of directors were approached with a view to forming a branch of the association in Bendigo. On August 26, 1874, the inception took place. The building was demolished in 1971. Photo collage of members of the Building Committee of the Sandhurst Branch of the Australian Natives' Association. Twenty sepia coloured photos recessed in oval or rectangular shaped opening with gold coloured edging, on backing board. One larger photo is surrounded by gold coloured pattern with scalloped edge. Below this is a photo of the ANA building in View Street. The A.N.A. Hall in View Street was opened in August 1894. The Sandhurst Branch was started on August 26th, 1874. Plaque formerly attached to the lower edge of the framed photo collage of the Building Committee of the Sandhurst Branch of the Australian Natives' Association. It lists names of men in the photos. Names printed on gold coloured paper mounted on piece of masonite, matching the position on the collage. Administrative record - Work Book
The item is a hard cover book recording weekly work of T.J. Connolly, Ironmongers, Sandhurst. A list of names is written inside the front cover. An alphabet index at the front of the book, lists types of goods and equipment. The index is followed by handwritten pages recording each week's work including goods, fittings and equipment types, client surname or business name and a numbering system. The work records have also been checked off with ticks or crosses separately. The hard cardboard cover is green with red marbling, which is worn and torn. The leather binding has peeled away from the pages and front cover but is attached to the back cover. The pages are fragile with many loose pages due to the state of the binding. The book is full and includes the date range of 29 May 1886 to 12 October 1888. The item is a hard cover invoicing book of T.J. Connolly, Ironmongers, Sandhurst. Inside the front cover is an index page listing customer name and customer number. The following pages are carbon copy records of work completed for each customer, recording date and description of work along with price. The pages are printed with the numbers 01 to 99 in the top right-hand corner. Pages 01 to 94 have been used. Pages 95 to 99 are blank. The descriptions of work mostly relate to work completed on cars but also includes hiring out of cars, destination and miles travelled. The customers include army personnel and recruiters. Each page is signed and or checked off in red pencil. The brown hard cardboard cover is worn and marked. The spine of the book is brown canvas. The pages are stapled together.
