This portable communion set was used by Hilda Fisher (nee Graham). Deaconess Hilda Fisher was Warden of the Methodist Deaconess Order of Victoria and Tasmania. She was also Chaplain of Fairfield Sanitorium and was later appointed to Fairlea Prison for Women.Dimpled black leather covered timber box with red velvet lining. The box contains two silver screw top bottles, three glass communion glasses, a silver communion cup, a small silver paten and wafer box. The box has a carry handle on the top of the lid and two securing latches on the side. The Certificate of Naturalisation was issued to Nicholas Paizis on 6 August 1928. At the time he was residing at 30 Bay Street, South Melbourne.By becoming an Australian citizen an immigrant gained greater security and freedom in the adopted country. The owner of this book was Edith Larwill. She was a violinist who played in the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra early in the 20th century. She married Henry Jacobs, a Warrnambool Real Estate Agent and in the 1940s and 50s she took an active part in the musical life of Warrnambool as a violinist and accompanying pianist. Her son Frank was also a businessman in Warrnambool. This book is of moderate interest as a text book used by Edith Jacobs. She was prominent in the 1940s and 50s in the Warrnambool musical scene. This is a hard cover book of 210 pages. It has a dark green cover with gold lettering on the spine. The book has a Preface, 24 chapters of text and an Appendix. The text includes many musical notations. The signature of the owner is handwritten in black ink. There is some damage to the bottom edge of the spine.
