Photograph of W6 class tram No. 883 running a route 10 to West Preston service in Macarthur St Melbourne with the Victorian Treasury building behind. They are people boarding and alighting from the tram. The tram was built in April 1943. There are no holes in the dash canopy lighting which were installed in Nov. 1951. The tram has a sign on the front about traveling in comfort between 930 and 430. Photograph shows Y class tram No. 469 at Preston Workshops at the time of its entry into service June 1927. Designed and built by the MMTB. Has the timber rack in the background. This tram is on display at the Melbourne Tram Museum at Hawthorn Depot. Used to hold the ticket records or trip journals of a conductor. Originally stamped for use by North Melbourne cable tram depot, no. 101 and then "No. 67" or on rear No. 205 with other numbers stamped out. Has many nicks in the leather to hold elastic bands. Probably made when the MMTB introduced paper tickets onto the cable trams. On the inside is the Fare Section table for East Preston - City (via St Georges Rd and Latrobe St") - sheet 17 - which matches the 1955 Sections and Fares Book - see Reg Item 1207. For another similar example see item 8349.Demonstrates a cable tram era leather journal cover used tor record trips and tickets sold.Journal or ticket record wallet, consisting of two very heavy and hard pieces of brown coloured leather joined by a sewn (brown cotton) lighter piece of leather to form foldable wallet.
