Charlie Richardson was the son of William Richardson and grandson of Joseph Richardson who arrived on Phillip Island in 1868. Mr Charlie Richardson was for many years the Mate of the Rhyll-Stony point Ferry. The land for this building was granted to the Benevolent Society by James Atkinson in 1850. The construction of Seaview commenced in 1860, after David Talbot, purchased the land from James Atkinson,It had been suggested that it was intended to be double storied but there is no evidence of how that would have been accomplished. Following Talbot’s insolvency, Michael O’Reilly leased the house in 1862 until 1876 when he left for Melbourne.William Powling (Solicitor) acquired the house for Eight hundred and twenty three pounds in 1890 and lived there the rest of his life. Presbyterian Church Reefs Pleasant Creek. Built 1860. Part of a collection of Photographs by Mr. O.G. Armstrong as commissioned by the Shire of Stawell in 1866 for the Inter-colonial and Paris Exhibition in Melbourne in 1866. This first Presbyterian church was built in Church Street and was of a modest design as it was to be only a temporary house of worship. The first services were held here on Sunday, August the 23rd, 1860. The present church, St Matthews Uniting Church is situated in Scallon Street and the first service were held there in 1869. 'Dunhelen' is situated on the Mickleham Road at Greenvale. The rear of the homestead was constructed in the 1850's and the original owners were Richard and George Sinclair Brodie who emigrated from Scotland.A coloured photograph of part of a porchway of a house. The verandah roof is constructed from wooden beams and corrugated iron. The walls are bluestone with granite stone quions around the corners and window frames. Date is the one given by descendant Julia Thornton. William and May Palstra were married in 1920; this was their first and only home. They had 3 children, Margaret, Jocelyn and William. Margaret Thornton was a daughter of William and May Palstra; one of her daughters, Julia Thornton still lives in the house in 2023. For a time 3 generations of the family lived in the house - Margaret Thornton, Julia Thornton, her then-husband and their 2 children. The house remains in 2023 with extensions to the rear and side. Donation form signed by Julia Thornton. This is one of very few homes in the area which has been held continuously by the same family. It is typical of the Californian bungalow style built after World War 1 but modified for expanded family needs.
