Frank Wright was a renown resident of Smeaton, where he was born on 2 August 1901. He lived at Laura Villa, and attended Smeaton State School. His father William was a gold miner and his mother's name was Sarah. Their family won many singing and instrumental awards. Frank was tutored by Percy Code and was awarded a gold medal for the highest marks in the ALCM examinations in the British Colonies at the age of seventeen years. He became the Australian Open Cornet Champion by the age of eighteen. A year later, Frank conducted the City of Ballarat Band, and later the Ballarat Soldiers’ Memorial Band. He formed the Frank Wright Frisco Band and Frank Wright and his Coliseum Orchestra. These bands won many South Street awards, and Frank as conductor won many awards in the Australian Band Championship contest. In 1933 Frank Wright sailed to England to conduct the famous St Hilda’s Band and was later appointed Musical Director of the London County Council, where he organized many amazing concerts in parks, in and around the London district. He was made Professor of Brass and Military Band Scoring and conducted at the Guildhall of Music and Drama. Frank was often invited to adjudicate Brass Band Championships around Europe, in Australia, including South Street and in New Zealand. The Frank Wright Medal at the Royal South Street competition is awarded to an individual recognized as making an outstanding contribution to brass music in Australia.This single sheet of typed paper has the printed header of the New Zealand Brass Bands' Association and is a letter of reference for Frank Wright signed by John G Osborne, the Secretary. The donor, Jean Boucher was the daughter of Wally Ives and she was an early active member of the History Nook at the Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre and the Surrey Hills Historical Society. The Ives family were associated with the Wyclif Church Tennis Club, so this is possibly the Wyclif float.Black and white photo of a float created on the tray of a truck for the Empire Day celebrations in 1935 or 1936. The side of the truck and the cabin are decorated in palm leaves and 2 sets of crossed tennis racquets and the word 'tennis' appear on the side of the tray. The introduction in this book, by Doulas R. Aylen (CEO), explains that the book is a publication of the memoirs of William Ludwig Samuel Sebastian Lechte, written in the 1930s. Small book titled "CAULFIELD 1869 - 1935 MEMORIES OF THE PAST" by William Ludwig Samuel Sebastian Lechte, published by the City of Caulfield, 1993. The book has a cream coloured cover with the title and author, an aerial image of Caulfield featuring the Caulfield Town Hall and the City of Caulfield Coat of Arms printed on the front. The pages inside include 18 pages of black text printed on white pages. A sticker on the front bottom left hand corner reads 994.51, as this object was once a part of a library catalogue. -

Financial aid from the Methodes Church enabled a building to be erected using voluntary labour. The first service was held by the Methodes' on Sunday Dec. 1st. 1935. Conducted by Rev. N. G. Graham of Stawell and the evening service by Rev. G. Fisher of Ararat.
