B&W print and scanned images of a coloured postcard lent to the BTM by Mr. Norm DePomeroy, Dec. 1997. Image is an ESCo tram near the intersection of Doveton St. and Sturt St. travelling west along the south side of Sturt Street. Photo appears to be taken soon after opening of the electric trams, as the tramway is well paved compared to the rest of the street which shows vehicle tracks etc. Small horse drawn vehicle crossing in front of the photograph. Shows buildings along the north side of Sturt St. and the building at the SE corner of Doveton St. ESCo tram has destination board on the front dash of the tram. See Reg. Image is of a horse tram leave the Grenville St. terminus, to travel west bound along the north side of Sturt St. Has many pedestrians in photo and some horse drawn vehicles. Shows the position of the horse tram track in Sturt St., north side, was not up against the south side kerb. Postcard has a Christmas message on the base of it. Also shows telegraph poles along the north side of Sturt St. 1 copy held at 8/98. Postcard dated 22 Dec. 1904 See Reg Item 2437.1, 2437.2 for original postcards held within the collection. See 836i3. Yields information about the reconstruction of the depot trackwork during 1935/1936 and the condition of the rails, types of rails and methodsSet of 5 Black and white photo prints from collected negatives of the relaying of the depot fan at the SEC Ballarat depot building, during refurbishment by the SEC during 1935 or 1936. 1351.1 - Wendouree Parade depot junction, track - relaying the 2nd set of points. One track was still useable at the time. Note fences and tools lying around the work area. 1351.2 - laying out the trackwork for two and three roads, note machines and cylinders in background. 1351.3 - looking along No. 2 road out of the depot doors, not connected, possibly taken some time after 1351.2, as the area appears to be cleaned up. 1351.4 - Photo showing the various rail weights for possibly the western rail on No. 3 road and how the fishplates were at the time of the photograph. Not known whether this was the final arrangement, taken looking towards the depot building. 1351.5 - ditto but from the other end - note the damaged flangeway on the depot end rail - horse tram rail? Yields information about the installation of the service pits in the depot during 1935/1936 and the methods usedSet of 2 Black and white photo prints from collected negatives of the construction of service pits and the pit for the wheel grinder at the SEC Ballarat depot building, during refurbishment by the SEC during the 1935/ 1936. 1352.1 - Formwork being set up for the service pit in No. 1 road at the SEC depot. 1352.2 - finished concrete walls for pit and wheel grinder on No. 4 road at the SEC depot, but not yet fully backfilled. No. 12 at the front of the depot and two other single truckers on adjacent tracks. 2nd copy held of 1352.2 ex moveable display boards. On the rear of the postcard is a letter to Miss Hancock, Pitt St. Rockdale NSW, from a W.H. Nicholls. Message in pencil, address in ink. Postcard made by "WTP" Has a "Victoria One Penny" stamp. Tram has a SEC "Everything's under control in my all electric kitchen". Reid's Coffee Palace is the background. Photo shows the Ballarat Railway station clock tower, part of the train shed and the signals on the station side of the gates and another bogie tram waiting at the end of the double track in Lydiard St. for No. 41 to pass. 2059.2 - ditto, but with the two trams passing each other. The Provincial Hotel is also in the photograph. Kodak cardboard mount slide, taken by Peter Moses assumed Jan. 1969, dated only "Jan", but date lines up with Bendigo slides and type of numbering. Yields information about the a street procession or parade during the 1920's clothing and that a tram was parked to one side.Black and White photograph, of a Labour Day procession in the east end of Sturt St, near Grenville St, during the 1920's. Shows many people, mainly women in 1920's style clothing, watching the procession or parade, standing on either side of the northern half of the street, while a horse drawn car with a person dressed in a long beard proceeds along the street. On the tram track is ESCo tram with a large destination box parked. The tram has a Bushell's Tea on the front panel. Photo appears to be taken soon after the opening of the electric trams, as the tramway is well paved compared to the rest of the street which shows vehicle tracks etc. For similar images see Reg. items 834, 838, 2151 and 8998. Note the roof of a small horse-drawn vehicle crossing in the center foreground of the photograph - this vehicle is shown in detail in other images. Shows buildings along the north side of Sturt St. and the building at the SE corner of Doveton St. ESCo tram has a destination board on the front dash of the tram.Yields information about Sturt St soon after the opening of the Ballarat Electric tramwayPrinted black and white postcard of an ESCo tram near the intersection of Doveton St. and Sturt St. travelling west along the south side of Sturt Street.
