Book - 40 pages including card covers - the history of the Brighton Electric Line by Leon Marshall-Wood, published 1966, 3rd edition revised and enlarged. Gives a brief history of the electric tramway operated by the Victorian Railways between St. Kilda Station and the Brighton Beach railway station, that commenced operation in 1905. Also a short history of the Sandringham - Black Rock - Beaumaris - Cheltenham tram electric and horse tram lines. Includes maps, rolling stock and ticket notes. Published by Traction Publications. Set of personal papers - placed in a file marked "Tramway Development M&MTB" Carbon copies of typed documents titled "Lists showing existing tramways" obtained under 1920's Acts, including Orders In Council, lists lines opened or converted by the MMTB with dates. Second set of documents - provides comments on the proposed amendment to Act including definitions, schedules, relationships with councils and notices. Third set of documents provides an listing of street, municipality, extent of tramway, and details authorisation's - updated to 8/1928. Set of 19 drawings showing the development of the Melbourne tramway system between 1885 and 1921. Based on MMTB drawing "Tramway Map of Melbourne & Suburbs" P4609, 18 sheets showing year by year development of the cable and electric tram system, printed on off white paper. Mr. McComb had intended it would appear to do further work - with some 20 sheets printed on brown card paper but not used (.19 - same drawing) Each sheet has the year in red at the bottom right hand corner of the sheet. .1 - 1885 - with the Richmond line and main rail lines coloured in showing a catchment area. .2 - 1886 - shows the new cable line in Collins St and has a note that no suburban line constructed in 1886 .3 - 1887 - Bourke and northern lines and Brighton Beach to Sandringham and Hawthorn to Kew .4 - 1888 - Swanston St, Domain Road, Chapel and inner circle and towards Hurstbridge.\ .5 - 1889 - Rathdown St and Toorak Road .6 - 1890 - South and Port Melbourne, North Melbourne and Northcote. Series of 15 colour route maps for various tram lines or groups of tram lines for the MMTB. Some have the Transport Information Centre telephone printed on them, others have a label stuck on. Some are finished with a plastic laminate finish on either one or both sides. Show the major cross streets, parks, schools, other tram routes, major stop numbers and railway lines. Two copies of each held unless noted otherwise. .1 - Mont - Albert City - R11/77, shows routes 43. 47. 45. 44 .2 - Malvern, East Malvern, Carnegie and East Brighton Tram Routes (from St Kilda Junction) - R1/79 - shows routes 5, 3, 67, 66, 61, 62 and 64. .3 - Swanston St tram guide - R1/79 - lists all routes and route numbers that branch or cross Swanston St between Grattan St and St Kilda Junction. .4 - St Kilda Rd Tram Routes R12/77 - details South Melbourne Beach, route 1 and route 2 and St Kilda Beach routes 15, 16 and 55 otherwise shows were the various routes branch off St Kilda Road. Gives details of the committee, the committee report, comments on the Board's financial position, the debate between tramways or railways, recommendations and views of the Railways Commissioners. .2 - Associated map - Map - drawing with a line back, titled "Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board Proposals for General Scheme". Shows the proposed tram lines submitted to Parliament for the report into the General Scheme. Printed by Sands & McDougall Pty Ltd. Signed by J. Postcard - full colour, Divided back type of Swanston St looking North just before the Flinders St intersection, with Young and Jackson Hotel and many neon signs in the background. Tram 756 with destination of Moreland and Route 15 is in the view. Note the wood planks in between the rails at the stop, possibly at the time that the bridge over the rail lines was being rebuilt. Appears to have a The Met tram stop sign on the safety zone. Possibly late 1980's. Photos show the construction of King St overpass in Flinders St which was part of the project to construct a bridge over the Yarra River and provide a new southern outlet road between the city and eventually St Kilda Junction. The overpass construction was commenced in 1959 with tramway works first commencing. It was demolished in 2005. 1 - looking west at Market St. 2 - looking east from Spencer and Flinders St with the railway viaduct behind. 3 - Tram lines diverted onto the new overpass. Report prepared by the Tramway Board, the intermediate body between the Melbourne Tramway and Omnibus Co. (MTOC) and the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board (MMTB), examining the status of the special work (points and crossings), curves, depot entry tracks and other worn tracks for wear. This report looks at the northern half of the cable system. Prepared May 1916 with a second inspection during July 1916. Provides detailed layout drawings of each junction, crossings with other cable lines, railway tracks, curves, depot entry, and locations where cable pick up points were - a "wiggle" in the track. Yields information about the examination of the cable tram special work prior to the end of the MTOCo franchise.Digital image - scan of the 1916 Report by the Tramway Board - approx 200 pages within a heavy cardboard folder secured with two interscrews or Chicago screws. Photograph of W7 1024 decorated and illuminated for the Centenary of Kew. See March 1961 Electric Traction - "W7 1024 was decorated and illuminated for the centenary of the City of Kew, and was scheduled to run between December 4 and December 16, 1960, from Kew Depot on the Mont Albert and North Balwyn lines. Its term was extended to mid-January and it was still running in early February. It was similarly decorated for the centenary of the City of Fitzroy in 1958 (see illustration E.T. 10/60).
