Domestic object - Assorted Bottles
This collection represents late 19th and early 20th-century glass bottles, commonly used for household, medicinal, beverage, and food storage purposes. Soda and mineral water bottles (tinted blue or green) were often sealed with marble stoppers (Codd bottles) or corks. Alcohol and wine bottles were dark green or brown to prevent light exposure from spoiling the contents. Apothecary and medicine bottles were embossed or labeled, sometimes with poison warnings. Preserving jars with metal clamps were used for storing homemade preserves and pickled goods. Food product containers, such as mustard or jam jars, were commonly reused for other household needs. This collection likely originated from a rural homestead, a general store, or an apothecary, representing everyday life in the late 1800s to early 1900s.The image showcases a diverse collection of glass bottles and jars, varying in size, shape, colour, and purpose. The assortment includes: Tall, slender bottles with narrow necks, likely used for soda, beer, spirits, or wine. Shorter, rounded bottles, which may have contained tonics, medicine, or sauces. Glass jars with metal lids, including one with a hinged clamp, suggesting use for preserves, pickles, or household goods. Several bottles retain original labels, with one clearly marked "Water" and another labeled "Star", indicating they were originally used for beverages or medicinal products. A rusted tin with a faded label, which appears to be an old food or medicinal container. Some bottles exhibit embossed lettering, which was a common feature in 19th and early 20th-century packaging. Most bottles are clear, green, or brown, with some appearing to have a blue tint, which was characteristic of early mineral water and soda bottles. Some bottles have cork or screw tops, while others have open tops, suggesting they may have been sealed with wax or stoppers. The collection appears to be a historical assortment, possibly from an old general store, apothecary, or household setting.bottles, kitchen, household item -

Accessory - Cufflinks (8), Stratnoid, 1860-1920
This is a mid-20th century retail display board for Stratnoid brand cuff links, likely used in a menswear store or drapery shop. Stratnoid was a British manufacturer known for producing men's accessories such as cuff links, collar studs, and tie pins. The board served both a promotional and practical purpose—allowing customers to view and select products directly. Such displays were common in Australian rural stores, and this example may have been used in Natimuk or the Wimmera region in a general store, tailoring business, or outfitters.A rectangular display board featuring a collection of Stratnoid cuff links, mounted in neat rows against a black velvet-covered backing. Each pair is secured in place by metal clips. The cuff links are circular in shape, with a smooth, slightly domed surface, appearing to be made of mother-of-pearl or a pearlescent plastic material. A variety of sizes are present on the board, suggesting a sample or sales display set. At the centre is a small metallic label reading: “STRATNOID – MADE IN ENGLAND” The cuff links are evenly spaced, and many slots are unfilled, possibly indicating missing or removed items. 8 cufflinks in black velvet rackCentral label: “STRATNOID – MADE IN ENGLAND 383"natimuk, stratnoid, costume accessory, cufflink, suit, clothing, fashion -

Newsletter - City of Moorabbin Historical Society April 2013 doc, April 2013
The City of Moorabbin Historical Society was formed c 1960 by a group of Moorabbin area residents who were concerned that the history of the area should be preserved. A good response to a call for items related to the historical area of Moorabbin Shire brought donations of a wide variety of artefacts that are now preserved by the current members of CMHS at Box Cottage Museum. Helen Stanley, Secretary of CMHS, began producing a Newsletter for members in April 2007 to provide current information and well researched items of historical interest Helen retired in 2012 and Dr Bill Richardson, Secretary CMHS produced this NewsletterDr Bill Richardson, Secretary, has taken on the role of producing the bimonthly Newsletter for CMHS following the resignation of Helen Stanley. The Victorian Government Legislation has a new set of Model Rules that we have been invited to adopt and modify if we feel necessary. Our conclusion is that the new Model Rules are generally comprehensive and adequate, and are simple to understand. We recommend that the new model rules be adopted with some possible additions.A4 paper x 2 pages printed on one side. This is the first of the bi-monthly, City of Moorabbin Historical Society Newsletter produced by Society member and Secretary, Dr. Bill Richardson in April 2013. YouTube video of the Cottage is up and running. Type Box Cottage in search engine. City of Glen Eira properties staff inspected Cottage, found all ok and organised some photographs for the Glen Eira residents’ handbook. Dennis has installed the new display cabinets that he built for the barn for the tools that were displayed in the dairy. This was funded by CGE Community Grant . We will need to decide on the Model Rules and our purposes as required by the new Victorian Government legislation. The next general meeting is on 28th April at 1:00pm .Membership fees for 2013 are due and payable. Volunteers will be needed on Friday 26th April City of Moorabbin Historical Society Inc. / Reg.
