The Johnstone family were connected with the Craiglea Winery in Sunbury from 1864 to 1883. It was established by James Johnston, the father of Wilfred Henry. Charles Johnston took over the winery in 1885 and in 1897 he purchased 'Kignane'. A cousin ran Craiglea until 1905A photocopy taken from an older portrait of Wilfred Henry Johnston. The photograph is one of a series of 6 which feature the Sunbury Railway Station complex. The complex includes photographs of the railway station with the wooden pedestrian bridge which has been demolished and two photographs of the water towers. Two viaduct bridges were constructed across the Jacksons Creek valley at Rupertswood on the Bendigo rail line to bring the trains down the steep incline into Sunbury station.A photograph of the railway viaduct bridge showing one end of the span and 4 of the pylons. Rosenthal Winery in Vineyard Road, Sunbury was one of the first wineries established in the area. It was owned by R. F. Kurrle. The roofless building still stands on the property which was part of the dairy farm owned by Tom and Angela Millett. A set of 12 photographs of the 'Enterprize Project' showing the different stages of the rebuilding of the historic schooner 'Enterprize' which brought early setters to Victoria from Tasmania in 1834. The series of 15 photographs were taken to bless the laying of the keel of the schooner 'Enterprize' on the 29th August, 1991. George Evans, who settled at Emu Bottom in Sunbury, travelled from Tasmania to Melbourne in the 'Enterprize' in 1834. The event took place at South Wharf in Melbourne. The Rupertswood Battery were present and Irene Evans was a member of the official party.Irene Evans is seated on the keel of the 'Enterprize' and is surrounded by eight members of the Rupertswood Battery who are in full ceremonial dress. The scarred tree is located on a hillside in a local reserve. The bark has been removed in the past to make a boat or other large utensil. Melbourne's skyline can be seen faintly in the distance in the middle of the photograph with local suburban development in the middle distance. The original swing bridge was built across the Deep Creek in 1854 to allow the Daniel family to visit the Dickens sisters. The outdoor toilet was a common feature in country estates and farms before the introduction of septic tank systems to non-sewered areas. The original single storey hotel was built by the vigneron, F. F. Bubeck. The hotel was destroyed by fire in 1901 and the present red brick building was built by George Millett. The three brick shops were part of the later commercial development which emerged along O'Shanassy Street. These shops were built on the northern side of Brook Street. The photograph was taken after Coles Supermarket and Sunbury Shopping Square were constructed on the railway land on the east side of the line in 1989, but before the Safeway-Woolworths complex was built in 2000 on the west side of the railway line. This corner was occupied in the past by Lloyds Chemist shop which was a weatherboard structure. The building suppliers and timber yard has been demolished and a Centrelink Office and car park area has been built on the site. The building suppliers and the Sunbury CFA were sited at the northern end of Evans Street and in the past were away from the main shopping centre. As Sunbury grew from a country town to an outer suburb the town centre and shopping centre expanded along Evans and O'Shanassy Streets. The disused cottage was owned by Alec Lloyd who was the fruiterer in Sunbury. It was situated on a sheep run on the Diggers Rest-Toolern Vale Road and was destroyed by fire in the early 1990's.A coloured photograph of a weatherboard farm cottage in a paddock with tall gum trees behind the house.
