On the underside has the words "Grindley Hotel Ware, England, Vitrified, Loftus Moran Pty Ltd, Melbourne. Patent. Has a crown or manufacturers mark on the top of the lettering. Set of destination indicator equipment that was fitted to Z3 and A class trams. Each item consists of various electronic parts contained within a metal case that could have been cabled together. Equipment manufactured by (Carl) C. Brose of Wuppertal Germany and maintained by Font Electronics of Melbourne - some items have the manufacturers details on them along with the details of the maintenance company and serial numbers etc. Photo .1 - shows the set of equipment as placed on display in the training room. .1 - set of two route number boxes, three individual controlled blinds, driven by a motor and control gear. Has a Fluro light fitted internally. Photo, from The Age used in item 7194 reporting on the closure of the St Kilda - Brighton tramway from Elwood depot to Middle Brighton on 1/7/1957. Photo shows Victorian Railways tram No. 35 at St Kilda Railway station with the privately operated bus behind. The service was operated by the Eastern Suburbs Omnibus Service using some half-cab buses. The bus is a Leyland OPS4 built in 1950 and subsequently sold to Eastern Suburbs Omnibus service in 1957. Was it on hire to the Brighton bus company? Yields information about replacement of trams on the St Kilda Brighton line by buses in July 1957. Melbourne Tramway & Omnibus Co. Bell Punch No. D406. A heavy nickel or chrome plated steel ticket or fare strip canceling / registering mechanism used on Melbourne cable trams. When a fare was sold, the bell would ring advising the passenger that their fare have registered. "An ingenious device resembling in principle the ticket punch of a railway porter. It is carried by the conductor who wears pinned to his coat a 'trip-slip'. He punches this once for every fare received; the action is simultaneously registered on a dial inside the punch and bell rings to appraise the passenger of the fact. The punch is provided with a patent lock, the secret of which is known only at headquarters and effective system of check is thus secured."
