Both letters to “Lena” are from Tom WATT. As well as his signature someone has written his name as in blue pen. One letter is just signed “Tom” the other “Gunner T H Watt”. It is believed this is "Thomas Henry WATT", born Bendigo. He had pre war service in the 67th Bn Senior Cadets, no dates given. Regt No 3670 shows he enlisted on 20th or 28th Dec 1915 in the 8th reinforcements 21st Bn age 20 years. It shows he embarked just 9 days or 1 day later on 29.12.1915. He transfers to the 60th then 57th Bn and then on 17.3.1916 5th Div Artillery. he is mustered as “Gunner” and transfers to 5th DIV DAC (Ammunition Column) on 25.5.1916. (.1) The letter is dated Dec 7.12.1915 two weeks or so prior to enlistment dates. The end of the letter talks about being sick and possibly missing going with the next draft. There are 3 other sketchy records showing enlisted 12.7.1915, 5th DAC 15.7.1915, AWL Bendigo 4.11.1915. This would fit in better than enlisting and embarking in not much more than a week. Tom married Margaret McCALL in Scotland 25.4.1919 prior to coming home. Embarked for England 20.10.1916, embark for France 6.5.1918, WIA 9.8.1918 Concussion, hospital aboard ship 19.2.1919 “Albuminuria” discharged from the AIF 11.8.1919. (.2) On the rear a date 22.2.1916 has been written in darker pen colour. Alf Rogers had not enlisted at this point. The contents of the letter relate to German POW’s in England so the date would be more likely to be 1917. Michael Forrester b.1866 Branxholme,Victoria,d.1945 age 79 years. Buried Quambatook,he was the 8th of 10 children of parents, Pat and Johanna Forrester, both buried at Wycheproof. A bachelor farmer, Michael worked on the selection property at East Towaninnie.He and his unmarried sister, Ellen Forrester, inherited some of the parents' land, sold it and lived out their final years at Quambatook. Typical of many early local residents,Michael was born into a large family and did not move far from his beginnings. Farming and family was his life.
