Notice the bathroom behind the towel on the washing line. This was erected to give the tenant privacy. It cost over 100 pounds. The place was condemned a month or so later. You will notice there is nothing growing here. This part was always used for growing vegetables, there is not one there now. If I get him out the place will have to be demolished. Proceedings were opened in the Visitors' Centre by Barbara Rogalski whose father had catered for the Cottage opening in 1965. Rosalie Whalen (nee Schwerkolt) spoke about her early years in the area, after which the group walked to the cottage where a plaque was unveiled and a tree planted. There is also the remains of the old well. The old smoke house used to be down there also. All these things have disappeared a long time ago. The house is the only thing that remains of the Schwerkolt property. The wine cellars and other buildings fell down years ago after the bush fires burnt the wooden supports. You will notice the toilet has about 3 boards off the top. The floor is all eaten away with white ants and is all levels and the weatherboards have fallen at the ends. The roof is very bad also the gable of the stone looks not so good. The wooden kitchen is about 6 inches away from the stone house all the way around. You will notice the roof of the stone house is all colours with rust and paint. You will notice there are no spouts to take the water away.
