Ericsson had designed its first speakerphone in the 1930s, it was in 1959 that the company made a major breakthrough with the development of the Ericovox, according to the website EricssonHistory.com. Until then, speakerphones experienced problems with ambient noise and echoes. The pyramid-shaped Ericovox featured an amplification system that addressed the background noise problems by automatically amplifying the audio in the direction of the speaker, decreasing it in other directions. According to the Monument Australia website the 2015 location of the Honour Board was Garibaldi Hall, Hardies Hill Road, Garibaldi, Victoria. Being made in 1917, the honour board never had the end date of the war added. The Ballarat Courier wrote Ballarat Courier, 30th October 1917: At a reunion of old scholars of the Durham Lead State School on Friday 26th October 1917, an honour roll of those who had enlisted in the A.I.F. was unveiled. The honour roll contains a list of 32 names. Half of a black and white photograph showing three women standing to the right of a World War One Honour Board for Durham Lead State School. The women in the centre is thought to be Ellenor Mitchell (nee Austin). The women wear long sleeves and hats. One woman wears a white ribbon. A man's hand and shoulder is evident on the left side of the Honour Board. Photos of a Legacy gathering at the Legacy Garden of Appreciation that later has the 'Widow and Children' statue installed (1998). The Garden is in a cruciform shape and is on the eastern side of the Shrine Reserve near Birdwood Avenue. It was formerly called the Garden of Memory (1980-1986 - according to Monument Australia website, which also says "The poppies that bloom in the garden are from seeds taken from Villers-Bretonneux in France."). The Weekly Times was first published on September 11, 1869. After absorbing two other rural publications and expanding its publications, in 1902 The Herald and Standard Newspaper Company Ltd became the Herald and weekly Times, now Australia's oldest rural newspaper (more information on Weekly Times website). The article on Orbost was part of a series written by Steve Cooper with photographer, Mark Griffin. It explored communities which were struggling to survive. "Originally known as the “Old Ready Homestead” the house was built in the 1890’s and was surrounded by a larger parcel of land that at least included the lot next door (No 90) and possibly extended as far as the Church property. This area was the scene of many garden parties and Wedding parties and contained a large water fountain. The property remained in the Ready family until sometime after the death of Mabel Ready in 1967." Two professional photographs of the "Widow and Children" statue. The statue was commissioned by Legacy and unveiled in 1998 and symbolises the work of Legacy caring for the widows and children of veterans. Sculptured by Louis Laumen for the Legacy Garden of Appreciation, Birdwood Avenue on the Shrine Reserve. The Legacy Garden of Appreciation is in a cruciform shape and features red poppies which flower around Remembrance Day (11 November). The sculpture was dedicated on 29th September 1998 (part of this taken from the Shrine of Remembrance website). Appears to be a gas mask made in 1939 for protection against possible gas attack in World War II. Unknown provenance. Willow, the manufacturer of the metal canister, is an Australian family owned and run business, since 1887 and based in Melbourne. From their website: "During the second World War the factories almost exclusively produced munitions, working two shifts. The Australian Comforts Fund (ACF) was first formed on 24 August 1916 from a number of State based organisations that had been individually formed at the beginning of the First World War to send comforts to the troops. With the close of the war, the ACF officially ceased to exist on 16 April 1920, only to be revived in 1939 with the outbreak of the Second World War. The ACF provided embarkation kits to troops containing items such as soap, clothes, tobacco, razors and barley sugar. The ACF officially closed on June 27, 1946. The CD-Rom includes a range of electronic correspondence sent 'Big Cats Victoria and Simon Townsend and JohnTurner. Their website states: Big Cats Victoria Southern Australia, including south western West Australia, has a history of reports of ‘panther’ like predators dating back to the later half of the 19th century. The animals were usually described as being of black or tan colouration and with the proportions of a medium sized big-cat such as a Leopard or Puma. The records can be found in newspaper, radio and television archives, Government reports, a very few books and on the internet. The historical material is based on anecdotal reportage and has contributed to the mythification of the subject. Some Government agencies at both State and Local levels (in New South Wales), have collected records of sightings or investigated stock deaths purported to be associated with so called ‘panther’ kills. They remain understandably non committal due to the lack of a specimen of such a predator of undeniable authenticity. Apex Clubs were begun in March 1931 when three young architects, looking to make a contribution to their local community of Geelong Victoria, decided to create Apex.
