Memorabilia - P'boro' Power Boat Club, Wokker Moore, 1991
The Peterborough Power Boat Club was formed "on an indoors sort of day" during the summer of 1946/1947 in the bar of the old pub (The Peterborough Hotel). There was an annual race, which was a bit of fun, not a serious race. The race was called The Schomberg Cup (which then evolved into a golf tournament) and varied from a single unhandicapped lap around some marker buoys to the highest aggregate score from a series of three handicapped heats. The night before a Calcutta was held at the Hotel at which well dressed patrons all bet on the winning crew. The event ceased probably due to the aging of the main instigators. This is significant because it was a much anticipated annual event involving the whole township, anyone with a boat entered. Also, it somehow evolved into the annual golf tournament The Schomberg CupHandmade poster in a wooden frame which include text and photographspeterborough, schomberg cup, boat race, holiday activities, peterborough hotel, tinny grimwade, wokker moore, andrew chirnside, des moore -

The Cup records the winners of the actual boat race, including the name of the winning boat and the skipper from 1949 to 1962. The winners were: 1949 Won by Albie Affleck Skipper HT Grimwade. 1950 Won by Lady Emma Skipper DC Moore, 1951 Aunt Spee Skipper A W Moore, 1952 JB Skipper J W Bartlam, 1953. Cynic Skipper HT Grimwade, 1954 Tom Thumb Skipper CR Chirnside, 1955 Nipper Skipper PW Coy, 1956 Typhoon Skipper LG Tabart 1957 Lady Nelson skipper DC Moore, 1958 - 1959 The Sea Moore Skipper F Moore, 1960 Cutty Sark Skipper RA Chirnside, 1961 Sweep Skipper S Joyce, 1962 scum skipper WM HolbeachThis honour board is significant because it records the winners over time of the event, but also because it is a link with the original boat race, which was a major fun event over summer in the town.A shield shaped wooden plaque with a metal scroll at the top and metal engraved shield shape in the centre of the board, surrounded by numerous smaller shield shapes, each engraved with the names of the winners and the date. Souvenir - Bay of Islands Championshiop trophy
Informal 12 hole golf event, played on Grand Final weekend. This event was started by a group of friends when there were few official golf tournaments played at Peterborough. The event was a stroke event with "mystery handicaps" ie you didn't know your handicap until you finished playing. The event was played on the Sunday of Grand Final weekend (except initially); Friday night traditionally was tea at Boggy Creek Pub and a Fishing Comp on Saturday. The name came about because three of the regular players, Ivan Voss, Bob Loader and R. McKendrick had a hut at the top of the dunes near Crofts Bay. They had a clinker boat on the beach as well. They subsequently built a house in Childers St. It ceased when the original participants were no longer able to play. The date of the first winner is 1980, last recorded winner is 1995. No longer played. further information required. Winners: 2nd August 1980 F. digital photographs, Lisa Gervasoni, Pre-Olympic Swimming Pool at Kilmore, c2012, c2010-2017
There are many reports of early swimming holes in 19th Century Victoria. Between the period 1895 - 1920, most rural Councils were under pressure to provide more formalised bathing arrangements. Often this occurred through the building of wooden enclosures in rivers, the damming of creeks, the construction of lakes, or the utilisation of old pits for the purpose.Colour photograph of the site of the former Kilmore Pool, now a reservoir on the Kilmore Golf Club. swimming pool, sport, swimming, pre olympic, natural, lake, kilmore, pre-olympic
