A damaged faded grey paperback book titled A Laundry-Work Note Book by Louise Wetenhall printed in dark blue letters at the top of the front cover, with the Sir Isaac Pitman emblem below and Pitman printed at the bottom. Before electricity, candles were a primary source of light. They were used to light dinner tables, grand dining halls, and other formal settings. Tapers were essentially wax-coated wicks used to light gas or kerosene appliances or candles. Price's developed its 'Ship Brand' trademark in the 1870s, featuring the image of a clipper ship under sail. Price's candle tapers were made between 1880 and 1910. Edward Pyke and Jean Maurice Glauser invented this machine with the intention of enabling the easy and quiet production of Interpoint Braille. Although widely agreed to be one of the best Braille machines of its time, production of the machines was stopped during the Second World War because of rationing and high material costs. The machine has a keyboard arrangement at one end, the other end folds out to form a platform which is held up by a metal strut with rubber capping. An upward writing model, the paper feeds from the rear and passes under the space bar. The machine has no paper feed rollers. Used to communicate with the local telephone exchange and for connection to other subscribers. The introduction of automatic exchanges saw the their demise. This phone was used in the family home of the donor at Caboolture (aboriginal for carpet snake) during the 1940s and 1950s.A magneto telephone for communication with a manual telephone exchange. The handle on the right hand side, which was turned to rotate the magneto to call the exchange - ask operator for a number and then to be connected. Telephone enclosed in a specially designed box for mounting on the wall. There was a bell on top which rang when the magneto ringer at the exchange was turned. Fitted with a carbon microphone mounted on the front of the box for the transmission of the spoken word and an electro- magnet. A receiver which hangs on the left hand side on a hook. The hook acts as the on and off switch to answer the call and to switch on the battery to provide power for the receiver and energize the transmitter. There is an angled ledge for writing any messages. There is no battery.
