Has a sketch of Z 3 116. Provides a list or details of the changes to the tram from the Z 1 Z 2 types. Tear off section could be handed to the conductor. Set of destination indicator equipment that was fitted to Z3 and A class trams. Each item consists of various electronic parts contained within a metal case that could have been cabled together. Equipment manufactured by (Carl) C. Brose of Wuppertal Germany and maintained by Font Electronics of Melbourne - some items have the manufacturers details on them along with the details of the maintenance company and serial numbers etc. Photo .1 - shows the set of equipment as placed on display in the training room. .1 - set of two route number boxes, three individual controlled blinds, driven by a motor and control gear. Has a Fluro light fitted internally. See images .2 to .5 .2 - Small side destination indicator, with driven blind, electronic equipment with motor on the underside of the box - for use in Z class trams - see images .6 to .9 .3 - as for .2, but with motor mounted right side, used in A class trams, see images .10 to .12 .4 - set of two control panels with selection equipment for selecting the destination (by number) and route number with indicators and start button - see image .13 to 14 .5 - set of two long main rolls indicators, with control gear and Fluro light internally, driven by an internal electric motor - see images 17 and 18 .6 - set of two linking mechanism for the various boxes with large cables cut off for each of the four tram boxes. Sixty five page, plus manila covers, bound with a brown coloured comb binder report titled "Single-ended tram operations - A Feasibility study for the Bourke St and Collins Street routes". Looks at the background for the proposal, operational issues and an economic evaluation, including loading and unloading, a CBD loop and capital costs. Report has a note on page 2 that it was prepared prior to tendering for new trams. Report not dated as such but on front cover has a date "c1977", though based on the note done prior to ordering new trams could be c1976. See also Reg Item 338. On front cover is a post-it notes commenting about report - see image. Bell used by the conductor or passengers to signal to the driver - stop, proceed or an emergency stop. The actual bell and part of the striker are missing. The striker has been broken off. The "JS" indicates it was made by John Stephenson of New York who made tramway equipment and the first cable tram saloon cars for Melbourne. Tram line up at the depot with the same personnel (Item 9235), in formal poses in each photo. They are attired in the MESCo uniform that suggests that the photographs were taken before the State Electricity Commission of Victoria takeover on 1 September 1930. The ex-Melbourne Meadowbank cars 27 and 28 first ran in Geelong in 1928. Date of the photos would therefore be restricted to 1928-30, but it is possible that they were taken close to or on the handover date as a final record.
