A vintage 1950's collection of adventure stories for boys with black lined illustrations.A vintage 1950's hardcover children's book with the title Our Boys' Best of All printed at the top of the coloured illustration of three boys in a rowboat fishing. It is bound on the left side with faded grey tape. The back cover is plain cream coloured.The frontispiece illustration depicts a highwayman brandishing a pistol holding up a stagecoach of passengers. Monsieur Noir ( one of the stories) is written below in blue letters. The title page has the title, publisher details and a black lined illustration of a boy riding a horse with his whip in the air. In the middle of the collection of stories is a coloured plate with the name of one of the stories included: The Secret of Cormorant Point underneath the illustration of three boys being captured by a gang of men with a policeman coming to rescue them. J. Mann and Sons was first established as a farm produce store in 1921. The range of products was extended in the 1930s and included groceries and hardware, as well as the first petrol bowser in Wodonga outside the store. After WWII, the premises were extended and the range of products continued to increase. In the 1960s the Mann Family opened a new supermarket in Wodonga, in addition to the hardware business, providing steel, plumbing and industrial supplies, and they employed over 100 people at one stage. With changes in the retail industry, the Mann Family sold the main hardware business to Bunnings and the steel and rural produce business to the Kelly brothers in 2006.This photo is representative of a highly respected local Wodonga business which operated in the CBD for 85 years.A black and white photograph mounted on heavy card. Medal
An example of the Liberation Medal, fifth class, issued by the government of Kuwait for service during the Liberation of Kuwait campaign in the Gulf War of 1990 to 1993. This medal was provided to eligible Australian service personnel however is not worn as an official service decoration. This medal is engraved with the following; Hillier D. N. service number 322256. These are made of Bronze with coloured enamel features and have a ribbon with red, white and green vertical stripes. The medal complete with a service ribbon, is in a plastic presentation case which is stored in a protective cardboard sleeve. -
