This photograph shows the islands in the Hopkins River in 1911. This section of the river is in the Allansford area, near Jubilee Park (Hopkins River Caravan Park). It was, and still is, a picnic and fishing spot. On one of the islands is an unmarked grave which may be that of Jemima Christine Allan, the first wife of one of the first European settlers in the Allansford area, William Allan. She died in 1842. The photograph was taken by Jordan Studios so the photographer may be either Joseph Jordan, one of the best-known Warrnambool photographers of the past, or his son Arthur, also a well-credentialled photographer.This photograph is considerable historical importance, showing a section of the Hopkins River in the Warrnambool region in 1911.This is a black and white photograph in a wooden frame with a patterned edging. The photograph is inset with a gilt metal edging and enclosed in glass. The backing is wooden with a wire cord for hanging. The photograph shows the river with islands covered in vegetation. On the river are two boats, one wuih four occupants standing up in the boat and the other with two occupants. A photo of 12 Junior Legatees at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. Each year two junior Legatees from each state are selected to visit Canberra, and the War Memorial, under the auspices of the H.and D. Florance Foundation. Melbourne Legacy arranged many events for Junior Legatees to experience. This trip was held from 21 to 25 April 1997. Eltham Gateway, The old Bootmaker's Cottage adjacent to Whitecloud Cottage, 701 Main Road, Eltham The bootmaker's shop was operated by John Henry (Harry) Clark from about 1930. Clark was originally a photographer along with his brothers William (Will) Charles Clark and Clement Kent Clark. They operated as Clark Bros Photographers based at 25 Thomas Street, Windsor (Prahran) from about 1895 to 1915 at which point the premises was demolished.. Brother Clement died in 1912. By 1916 Harry was living and working as a photographer in Eltham and was recorded on the electoral rolls as a photographer up to and incliiding at least 1928. By 1931 he had changed proession to Bootmake and again continued on Main Road, Eltham South as a Bootmake at least until 1954. He died at St Vincent'e Hospital in Dec 1956. It is believed non of the brothers married. The trolley pole it is ready to head back into the city, and the destination board is reading Sebastopol. There are children and the crew posing beside the tram for the photograph. There is a crowd of people, standing on the road near the tram, and others waiting to take photos. The photographer says this was taken of the last of the last tram to run in Lydiard Street in 1971.
