Booklet - Mulqueen Funeral, 2003
In 1853 Thomas Abell opened a carpentry and undertakers in Bridge St, Bendigo. In 1855 the business moved to a two story building on the corner of Bridge St and Cemetery St. In 1856 the business was bought by George Oakley. His son William operated the business in partnership with Peter Fizelle from 1886 but this partnership was dissolved, rather acrimoniously in 1895 with Oakley opening a rival business. In 1898 Peter's daughter Elizabeth Fizelle married Irishman Michael Mulqueen and from 1900 the business became known as Fizelle and Mulqueen. Peter Fizelle died in 1901 but the company retained his name until 1934 when it becam known as Mulqueen and Sons. Today the company is in the hands of the sixth generation of Mulqueens.Mulqueen Family Funeral Directors 150 years Anniversary A4 Booklet; contains history and milestones of the company.history, bendigo, merle lummis collection, mulqueen family funeral directors -

Peter White Bray(28/2/1871-24/12/1958) was the son of John Bray and Catherine Hamilton Innes. John and Catherine had a total of 12 children. Another child was Edith May Bray (1883-27/5/1957) who married Harry Gee in 1904. Photograph - Chelsea State School, Students, staff and Family on a picnic, c 1912-14
In January 1912, a small school was established at Chelsea, with 65 students, in Hoadley’s Hall, located on Main Road, Chelsea, near the Nepean Highway. Due to its Oriental appearance, the local people called this hall “The Joss House.” Hoadley's Hall was was originally used at the Melbourne Show Grounds by Hoadley's which was moved to Chelsea. The Hall was also used for church services by different religions before they built their own churches. A new brick school was built on Argyle Avenue and officially opened on 27 January 1915.Sepia photo of children, staff and family from Chelsea State School, at a picnic, amongst the te trees.chelsea, education, chelsea primary school, school, hoadleys hall, joss house, picnic, te trees
