In the early 19th century, infant baptismal gowns were modelled on dresses worn by adult women. Gowns were typically made of fine white linen or cotton, and often trimmed with tucks, lace, whitework embroidery, and other handwork. The Kew Historical Society's collection includes over fifteen christening gowns dating from the 19th and 20th centuries.The christening gown of Dione McIntyre, local architect and life member of the Kew Historical Society. The colour and fabrics used in the gown were recycled from Ilma Diamond's [her mother's sister] wedding dress, when she was christened in 1931. As the smallest of the christening gowns in the collection, this would indicate that she was baptised at a very early age. The fragile baptismal gown is made from a silk slip, above which is an outer layer of embroidered net separated by bands of chiffon. Collar has embroidered edges and floral embroidery on each section(5). Yoke at front and back. Skirt sections front and back have 7 cm smocked section where attached to the yoke. Edge of each yoke has decorative embroidered leaves that continue along both edges of front opening and around the hemline. Lower sections of the front skirt have embroidered floral patterns. Long sleeves are gathered at shoulders with 4 cm section of smocking 2 cm at the wrist with 2 cm gathered edge at hem. Front opening is fastened at throat with metal hook and cotton loop, and three X one cm pearl look buttons beside the smocked section. Two silk fabric ties (68 cm X 14 cm) are gathered and attached below the collar an each side front opening. Unlined. Clothing. This unusual jacket has a fitted ''waistcoat'' appearance, fastened by eleven 1.5 cm diameter buttons, and hand stitched button holes. A separate, shaped front then overlaps the front. This has one tiny 7.5 cm long bound breast pocket, and an 8.5 cm long bound pocket at the lower section of each front. Front panels are peaked at the lower edge and have turned back lapels at the centre front - 4 cm wide. These are held by a 1.5 cm button at the top. and taper to the top of the peaked lower edge of the fronts. The high neckline is finished with a 4 cm deep stand-up collar. Long sleeves are tapered at the wrist, and have a 4 cm long opening at the sleeve edge, trimmed with 2 buttons on each sleeve. Stand-up collar, front edges and sleeve edges are lined with brown polished cotton. Internal seams and hem are bound in brown cotton fabric. Back of jacket is shaped by six panels of fabric, nipped in at the waist with two pleats and a button trimmed tab, at the lower centre seam, giving beautiful shaping. Object. Blue, damask weave fabric sash, 240 ms long(including fringing) woven with a rose design, and with a .8 cm wide white satin-finish stripe, just inside the side edges. A gold type metallic fringing, 5 cms deep, finishes each end. A woven panel just off centre of the sash, includes eleven figures, including children, three shields, a globe hand and heart. Radiating from the words- FRIENDSHIP LOVE AND TRUTH is an eye like shape, radiating light. At the lower edge of the panel, woven into the fabric are the words, MANCHESTER UNITY of the INDEPENDENT ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS. Above the woven panel is an ornate metal star, 10 cm x 10 cm, with eight points, and made from silver metal sequins and coiled wirework. Centre of the star is padded to a height of 1 cm, covered in satin, sequins and wirework in a circular shape. A 7 cm long metal tassell hangs from the lower edge of star. Two rectangular shield-shaped breast pockets have rounded lower corners, and a shield-shaped flap closure, fastened with a 1.8 cm brass like plastic button. All buttons have an impressed laural wreath and horn, (suspended by a three looped cord) - a replica of British Light Infantry buttons. Three brass like plastic buttons at centre front (4th one is missing). All buttons are pinned onto the garment to enable easy removable for cleaning. Two inside breast pockets. Fully lined with blue taffeta-like fabric. On each upper sleeve, at shoulder level there is an 8 cm diameter circular cloth badge, embroidered in blue, red, and gold, displaying a Coat-of- Arms, and two shields - one blue embroidered with a bunch of grapes, and one red, embroidered with a sheaf of wheat and a sheep. Associated with the service of Lieutenant H. Dixon, circa 1943. Worn by people who served on the Home Front in this Corps during the Second World War.This item is significant because Australian Army khaki woollen service dress jacket with red embroidered circular Unit Colour Patch on the top of each sleeves consistent with markings of Australia's home guard – the Volunteer Defence Corps (VDC). Four button down closure. The jacket is fully lined with a lightweight fabric, either natural or synthetic. A self fabric belt passes around the waist and fastens with a buckle at the front. Button down epaulettes with two pips denoting lieutenant ranking. 'Rising Sun' collar badges on each lapel. Pleated breast pockets with triple pointed flaps with exposed buttons. Semper Paratus is Latin for "Always Ready".Wooden shield with large round plaque center with same shield shaped image on it. Image features a boat with a day scene on the left and a night scene to the right. Below the boat is a polar bear head. Around the side of this image reads "USCGC NORTH WIND W-282. POLAR EXPLORATION. SEMPER PARATUS". This round plaque is enclosed by a gold Laurel wreath. Under this is a rectangular piece of fabric mostly green with yellow and black/navy as well. This blood pressure monitor (sphygmomanometer) belonged to Dr William Roy Angus, surgeon and oculist. It was donated to Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village by his daughter, Berry McDade in January 2015. . It is part of the “W.R. Angus Collection” that includes historical medical equipment, surgical instruments and material once belonging to Dr Edward Ryan and Dr Thomas Francis Ryan, (both of Nhill, Victoria) as well as Dr Angus’ own belongings. The Collection’s history spans the medical practices of the two Doctors Ryan, from 1885-1926 plus that of Dr Angus, up until 1969. The approximate manufacture date of the blood pressure monitor coincides with the time when Doctor William Roy Angus had his practice in Warrnambool. The company Short & Mason Ltd. London used the brand name TYCOS between 1907-1969 and Rudolf Riester (the brand on the cuff) formed the company ‘Riester” in Germany in 1948, where he developed and produced the first mercury blood pressure monitors. In 1939 Dr Angus and his family moved to Warrnambool where he purchased “Birchwood,” the 1852 home and medical practice of Dr John Hunter Henderson, at 214 Koroit Street. (This property was sold in1965 to the State Government and is now the site of the Warrnambool Police Station.). Dr Angus was appointed on a part-time basis as Port Medical Officer (Health Officer) in Warrnambool and held this position until the 1940’s when the government no longer required the service of a Port Medical Officer in Warrnambool; he was thus Warrnambool’s last serving Port Medical Officer. (The duties of a Port Medical Officer were outlined by the Colonial Secretary on 21st June, 1839 under the terms of the Quarantine Act. Masters of immigrant ships arriving in port reported incidents of diseases, illness and death and the Port Medical Officer made a decision on whether the ship required Quarantine and for how long, in this way preventing contagious illness from spreading from new immigrants to the residents already in the colony.) Dr Angus was a member of the Australian Medical Association, for 35 years and surgeon at the Warrnambool Base Hospital 1939-1942, He served as a Surgeon Captain during WWII1942-45, in Ballarat, Victoria, and in Bonegilla, N.S.W., completing his service just before the end of the war due to suffering from a heart attack. During his convalescence he carved an intricate and ‘most artistic’ chess set from the material that dentures were made from. He then studied ophthalmology at the Royal Melbourne Eye and Ear Hospital and created cosmetically superior artificial eyes by pioneering using the intrascleral cartilage. Angus received accolades from the Ophthalmological Society of Australasia for this work. He returned to Warrnambool to commence practice as an ophthalmologist, pioneering in artificial eye improvements. He was Honorary Consultant Ophthalmologist to Warrnambool Base Hospital for 31 years. He made monthly visits to Portland as a visiting surgeon, to perform eye surgery. He represented the Victorian South-West subdivision of the Australian Medical Association as its secretary between 1949 and 1956 and as chairman from 1956 to 1958. In 1968 Dr Angus was elected member of Spain’s Barraquer Institute of Barcelona after his research work in Intrasclearal cartilage grafting, becoming one of the few Australian ophthalmologists to receive this honour, and in the following year presented his final paper on Living Intrasclearal Cartilage Implants at the Inaugural Meeting of the Australian College of Ophthalmologists in Melbourne. In his personal life Dr Angus was a Presbyterian and treated Sunday as a Sabbath, a day of rest. He would visit 3 or 4 country patients on a Sunday, taking his children along ‘for the ride’ and to visit with him. Sunday evenings he would play the pianola and sing Scottish songs to his family. One of Dr Angus’ patients was Margaret MacKenzie, author of a book on local shipwrecks that she’d seen as an eye witness from the late 1880’s in Peterborough, Victoria. In the early 1950’s Dr Angus, painted a picture of a shipwreck for the cover jacket of Margaret’s book, Shipwrecks and More Shipwrecks. She was blind in later life and her daughter wrote the actual book for her. Dr Angus and his wife Gladys were very involved in Warrnambool’s society with a strong interest in civic affairs. Their interests included organisations such as Red Cross, Rostrum, Warrnambool and District Historical Society (founding members), Wine and Food Society, Steering Committee for Tertiary Education in Warrnambool, Local National Trust, Good Neighbour Council, Housing Commission Advisory Board, United Services Institute, Legion of Ex-Servicemen, Olympic Pool Committee, Food for Britain Organisation, Warrnambool Hospital, Anti-Cancer Council, Boys’ Club, Charitable Council, National Fitness Council and Air Raid Precautions Group. He was also a member of the Steam Preservation Society and derived much pleasure from a steam traction engine on his farm. He had an interest in people and the community. He and his wife Gladys were both involved in the creation of Flagstaff Hill, including the layout of the gardens. After his death (28th March 1970) his family requested his practitioner’s plate, medical instruments and some personal belongings be displayed in the Port Medical Office surgery at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village, and be called the “W. R. Angus Collection”. The W.R. Angus Collection is significant for still being located at the site it is connected with, Doctor Angus being the last Port Medical Officer in Warrnambool.. The collection of medical instruments and other equipment is culturally significant, being an historical example of medicine from late 19th to mid-20th century. Dr Angus assisted Dr Tom Ryan, a pioneer in the use of X-rays and in ocular surgery. Sphygmomanometer (blood pressure meter), from the collection of W.R. Angus. The items in this collection of Ecclesiastical Linen were used by St. Andrews Anglican Church on the corner of the Esplanade and 14 Drummond St, Dennington, Victoria. The first Anglican service was conducted on December 22nd, 1907. The church was decommissioned in January 2003. The items donated include Maniples, Chalice Covers, a Goblet Cover, Altar Cloths, Matts, Priest's scarf, armband and sashes, and a bag that is a cover for the Baptismal Towel. HISTORY OF ST ANDREWS, DENNINGTON The land on which St Andrews Church was built in Dennington was surveyed in the 1840s and reserved for church purposes in 1855. In 1889 the Farnham Dairy factory relocated to Dennington and the town began to grow as involvement in the dairy industry increased in the area. In 1896 plans for a church hall on the reserved land were considered and on 22nd December 1907, the first Anglican Service was conducted in Dennington, with 60 people attending. In August 1909 the first building was opened with a midweek evening service conducted by the Rev. J.A. Coe. The Sunday School was opened the following year. In that same year, Nestle took over the Farnham dairy plant. On December 20th, 1914, a new church was opened in memory of Andrew Peacock, who passed away in 1912. The funds had been raised by the community and 150 attended the morning service. The building was described as a simple edifice with a plain exterior and high, wide pointed windows, and a comfortable porch entrance, all of which gave a pleasing impression of light and space. In 1935 the average attendance for morning services was just over 22 people. In 1936 extensive repairs and replacements were carried out. In 1947 the first recorded Pastoral Festival took place and in the same year, a Ladies Guild was formed. In 1954 water services were connected to the church building. Many items of furniture, furnishings and books were donated over the life of the church, including handworked linen items. Further items were added due to the work of the Ladies Guild, as well as donations in memory of church and community members.These items of Ecclesiastical Linen are significant as examples of handworked embroidery and drawn-thread work from the early 20th century. They are also examples of a collection of items used for church services during this period. The Ecclesiastical Linen is also significant for its association with the early development of the local township of Dennington and the importance of setting aside land in the 1850s for the purpose of religious worship. The Ecclesiastical Linen is also significant for its connection to St Andrews Anglican Church, Dennington. The church was funded and attended by the local community in the early 1900s and is now listed on the Victorian Heritage Database (VHD 118083) as a building of historical and social significance. Set of Ecclesiastical Linen. The items were once used in St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Dennington, Victoria, between the years 1907 and 2003. All of the handmade items are in white fabric. Some also have embroidered emblems, tassels and drawn-thread work. White embroidery thread has been used for most of the decorated items, with the following exceptions, which have been embroidered with coloured thread; the communion linen, the Priest's scarf, armband and sash, the altar cloths, mats and a cover for the baptismal towel. ABOUT THE “W.R.ANGUS COLLECTION” Doctor William Roy Angus M.B., B.S., Adel., 1923, F.R.C.S. Edin.,1928 (also known as Dr Roy Angus) was born in Murrumbeena, Victoria in 1901 and lived until 1970. He qualified as a doctor in 1923 at University of Adelaide, was Resident Medical Officer at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in 1924 and for a period was house surgeon to Sir (then Mr.) Henry Simpson Newland. Dr Angus was briefly an Assistant to Dr Riddell of Kapunda, then commenced private practice at Curramulka, Yorke Peninsula, SA, where he was physician, surgeon and chemist. In 1926, he was appointed as new Medical Assistant to Dr Thomas Francis Ryan (T.F. Ryan, or Tom), in Nhill, Victoria, where his experiences included radiology and pharmacy. In 1927 he was Acting House Surgeon in Dr Tom Ryan’s absence. Dr Angus had become engaged to Gladys Forsyth and they decided he would take time to further his studies overseas in the UK in 1927. He studied at London University College Hospital and at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and in 1928, was awarded FRCS (Fellow from the Royal College of Surgeons), Edinburgh. He worked his passage back to Australia as a Ship’s Surgeon on the on the Australian Commonwealth Line’s T.S.S. Largs Bay. Dr Angus married Gladys in 1929, in Ballarat. (They went on to have one son (Graham 1932, born in SA) and two daughters (Helen (died 12/07/1996) and Berenice (Berry), both born at Mira, Nhill ) Dr Angus was a ‘flying doctor’ for the A.I.M. (Australian Inland Ministry) Aerial Medical Service in 1928 . The organisation began in South Australia through the Presbyterian Church in that year, with its first station being in the remote town of Oodnadatta, where Dr Angus was stationed. He was locum tenens there on North-South Railway at 21 Mile Camp. He took up this ‘flying doctor’ position in response to a call from Dr John Flynn; the organisation was later known as the Flying Doctor Service, then the Royal Flying Doctor Service. A lot of his work during this time involved dental surgery also. Between 1928-1932 he was surgeon at the Curramulka Hospital, Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. In 1933 Dr Angus returned to Nhill where he’d previously worked as Medical Assistant and purchased a share of the Nelson Street practice and Mira hospital from Dr Les Middleton one of the Middleton Brothers, the current owners of what was once Dr Tom Ryan’s practice. Dr L Middleton was House Surgeon to the Nhill Hospital 1926-1933, when he resigned. [Dr Tom Ryan’s practice had originally belonged to his older brother Dr Edward Ryan, who came to Nhill in 1885. Dr Edward saw patients at his rooms, firstly in Victoria Street and in 1886 in Nelson Street, until 1901. The Nelson Street practice also had a 2 bed ward, called Mira Private Hospital ). Dr Edward Ryan was House Surgeon at the Nhill Hospital 1884-1902 . He also had occasions where he successfully performed veterinary surgery for the local farmers too. Dr Tom Ryan then purchased the practice from his brother in 1901. Both Dr Edward and Dr Tom Ryan work as surgeons included eye surgery. Dr Tom Ryan performed many of his operations in the Mira private hospital on his premises. He too was House Surgeon at the Nhill Hospital 1902-1926. Dr Tom Ryan had one of the only two pieces of radiology equipment in Victoria during his practicing years – The Royal Melbourne Hospital had the other one. Over the years Dr Tom Ryan gradually set up what was effectively a training school for country general-practitioner-surgeons. Each patient was carefully examined, including using the X-ray machine, and any surgery was discussed and planned with Dr Ryan’s assistants several days in advance. Dr Angus gained experience in using the X-ray machine there during his time as assistant to Dr Ryan. Dr Tom Ryan moved from Nhill in 1926. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1927, soon after its formation, a rare accolade for a doctor outside any of the major cities. He remained a bachelor and died suddenly on 7th Dec 1955, aged 91, at his home in Ararat. Scholarships and prizes are still awarded to medical students in the honour of Dr T.F. Ryan and his father, Dr Michael Ryan, and brother, John Patrick Ryan. ] When Dr Angus bought into the Nelson Street premises in Nhill he was also appointed as the Nhill Hospital’s Honorary House Surgeon 1933-1938. His practitioner’s plate from his Nhill surgery states “HOURS Daily, except Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturday afternoons, 9-10am, 2-4pm, 7-8pm. Sundays by appointment”. This plate is now mounted on the doorway to the Port Medical Office at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village, Warrnambool. Dr Edward Ryan and Dr Tom Ryan had an extensive collection of historical medical equipment and materials spanning 1884-1926 and when Dr Angus took up practice in their old premises he obtained this collection, a large part of which is now on display at the Port Medical Office at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village in Warrnambool. During his time in Nhill Dr Angus was involved in the merging of the Mira Hospital and Nhill Public Hospital into one public hospital and the property titles passed on to Nhill Hospital in 1939. In 1939 Dr Angus and his family moved to Warrnambool where he purchased “Birchwood,” the 1852 home and medical practice of Dr John Hunter Henderson, at 214 Koroit Street. (This property was sold in1965 to the State Government and is now the site of the Warrnambool Police Station. ). The Angus family was able to afford gardeners, cooks and maids; their home was a popular place for visiting dignitaries to stay whilst visiting Warrnambool. Dr Angus had his own silk worm farm at home in a Mulberry tree. His young daughter used his centrifuge for spinning the silk. Dr Angus was appointed on a part-time basis as Port Medical Officer (Health Officer) in Warrnambool and held this position until the 1940’s when the government no longer required the service of a Port Medical Officer in Warrnambool; he was thus Warrnambool’s last serving Port Medical Officer. (The duties of a Port Medical Officer were outlined by the Colonial Secretary on 21st June, 1839 under the terms of the Quarantine Act. Masters of immigrant ships arriving in port reported incidents of diseases, illness and death and the Port Medical Officer made a decision on whether the ship required Quarantine and for how long, in this way preventing contagious illness from spreading from new immigrants to the residents already in the colony.) Dr Angus was a member of the Australian Medical Association, for 35 years and surgeon at the Warrnambool Base Hospital 1939-1942, He served as a Surgeon Captain during WWII1942-45, in Ballarat, Victoria, and in Bonegilla, N.S.W., completing his service just before the end of the war due to suffering from a heart attack. During his convalescence he carved an intricate and ‘most artistic’ chess set from the material that dentures were made from. He then studied ophthalmology at the Royal Melbourne Eye and Ear Hospital and created cosmetically superior artificial eyes by pioneering using the intrascleral cartilage. Angus received accolades from the Ophthalmological Society of Australasia for this work. He returned to Warrnambool to commence practice as an ophthalmologist, pioneering in artificial eye improvements. He was Honorary Consultant Ophthalmologist to Warrnambool Base Hospital for 31 years. He made monthly visits to Portland as a visiting surgeon, to perform eye surgery. He represented the Victorian South-West subdivision of the Australian Medical Association as its secretary between 1949 and 1956 and as chairman from 1956 to 1958. In 1968 Dr Angus was elected member of Spain’s Barraquer Institute of Barcelona after his research work in Intrasclearal cartilage grafting, becoming one of the few Australian ophthalmologists to receive this honour, and in the following year presented his final paper on Living Intrasclearal Cartilage Implants at the Inaugural Meeting of the Australian College of Ophthalmologists in Melbourne In his personal life Dr Angus was a Presbyterian and treated Sunday as a Sabbath, a day of rest. He would visit 3 or 4 country patients on a Sunday, taking his children along ‘for the ride’ and to visit with him. Sunday evenings he would play the pianola and sing Scottish songs to his family. One of Dr Angus’ patients was Margaret MacKenzie, author of a book on local shipwrecks that she’d seen as an eye witness from the late 1880’s in Peterborough, Victoria. In the early 1950’s Dr Angus, painted a picture of a shipwreck for the cover jacket of Margaret’s book, Shipwrecks and More Shipwrecks. She was blind in later life and her daughter wrote the actual book for her. Dr Angus and his wife Gladys were very involved in Warrnambool’s society with a strong interest in civic affairs. Their interests included organisations such as Red Cross, Rostrum, Warrnambool and District Historical Society (founding members), Wine and Food Society, Steering Committee for Tertiary Education in Warrnambool, Local National Trust, Good Neighbour Council, Housing Commission Advisory Board, United Services Institute, Legion of Ex-Servicemen, Olympic Pool Committee, Food for Britain Organisation, Warrnambool Hospital, Anti-Cancer Council, Boys’ Club, Charitable Council, National Fitness Council and Air Raid Precautions Group. He was also a member of the Steam Preservation Society and derived much pleasure from a steam traction engine on his farm. He had an interest in people and the community He and his wife Gladys were both involved in the creation of Flagstaff Hill, including the layout of the gardens. After his death (28th March 1970) his family requested his practitioner’s plate, medical instruments and some personal belongings be displayed in the Port Medical Office surgery at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village, and be called the “W. R. Angus Collection”. The W.R. Angus Collection is significant for still being located at the site it is connected with, Doctor Angus being the last Port Medical Officer in Warrnambool. The collection of medical instruments and other equipment is culturally significant, being an historical example of medicine from late 19th to mid-20th century. Dr Angus assisted Dr Tom Ryan, a pioneer in the use of X-rays and in ocular surgery. Surgical kit contained in fabric case or pouch, with stiff backing. Kit includes four screws and metal plates, held in place by loops inside case. Both short and long plates have rounded ends, holes evenly distributed along them and are flat underneath. They are stamped "MADE IN ENGLAND" One also has “FLBR BROS” on it. The four screws all have a single slot for tightening. A minature, ornamental Samurai helmet made of cast iron and brass, gifted to the Port of Melbourne Authority. The helmet has wing-like projections on the front, known as Fukigaeshi, and a prominent gold plated crest, mounted on the front centre. Red and gold embellishments can also be seen around the bottom edge of the piece and on the dragons adorning the Fukigaeshi. There are six small holes around the centre of the helmet. Research shows that there may have originally been decorative fabric and tassels embellishing the piece which would have been threaded through these holes and then looped around the crest.ornament, samurai, japan

This jumper is part of a General Purpose Uniform issued by the Australian Airforce to Bernard Farley during service. This uniform type was developed in 2014 and replaced camouflage as the uniform worn during general base duties and in non-warlike environments. Although a camouflage pattern, this design is not intended for use as camouflage. This woolen jumper was presumably a winter addition to the GPU.This item has social significance, as an item of uniform worn by Warrnambool RSL community member and Secretary (2019), Bernard Farley during service with the Australian Airforce. The item is a representative example of current Airforce General Purpose Uniform and is in excellent condition. As a set, the uniform has aesthetic significance in it’s design, incorporating GPU uniform design from the Army alongside the colours and motifs of the Australian Airforce. Navy blue ribbed knitted jumper with stitched navy cotton elbow patches, rectangular in shape. Similar rectangular shaped patches on the left and right shoulder, bearing two epaulettes, stiched at one end and fastened with velcro and the other. Louis Lachenal manufactured concertinas for C Wheatstone & Co. from around 1848-1858 in a combined home and manufactory in Cheswick, England. He then establish up his own business 'Lachenal's' at 8 Little James Street in London. In 1863 the firm began advertising both 'Anglo and English concertinas, which were more expensive. Lachenal passed away in 1861, so his wife Elizabeth took over the business. The firm was sold to a group of five businessmen in about 1873 and in 1874 the firm became ‘Lachenal & Co.’ A Trade Mark application was made by Richard Ballinger on behalf of Lachenal & Co. on 31st August 1878 and the Number 19,555 was published in the Trade Mark Journal January 8, 1879. The symbol was an English-style reed-shoe with the words 'Trade Mark' and 'English Make'. It was stamped on the right-hand rail (handle) of the Lachenal Anglos, to distinguish them from the German-made ones. This book could be described as the summing up of a theory of physical appearances, devised by a painter and demonstrated by paint. The foundation of this theory was laid down first in Paris by Max Meldrum early 1900s. A review calls the book "the most outstanding book on the craft of painting yet published in any language. Max Meldrum was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on 03 December 1875. His family arrived in Australia and Max Meldrum attended the National Gallery School, winning the Victorian Travelling Scholarship in 1899. It was deaccessioned and transferred from the Ballarat School of Mines library so would have been used by students and staff of the Ballarat Technical Art School, a division of the Ballarat School of Mines.
