The Country Women’s Association of Victoria was formed 12 March 1928 and today has over 5,600 members. Its original aim was to improve conditions by community service, more especially as they affect the welfare of women and children. The Wodonga CWA branch was formed in 1934 and has been an active group in the community until the present day. The CWA provided gathering opportunities for rural women and quickly became renowned for their street stalls, catering at Agricultural Shows and social events including debutante balls, handicraft classes and cooking demonstrations. Today they have become even more than that, participating in and organising a wide range of activities and initiatives in the community, always with the focus of service to others. The CWA is of significance on a local, state and national level as a critical service group. They conduct a range of social, educational and services throughout Australia with an initial focus on the support of rural women and children. Hat styles have sometimes changed little over the last 100 years. The 'fedora' style used for the manufacture of this 1970s hat dates from the 1890s. Originally a style favoured by women, it became primarily used for men's hats in the early 20th century, being popularised by the Prince of Wales, later Edward VIII. The 'flat' hat dominated millinery design in the 1950s. Most women sourced their hats from numerous Melbourne or suburban milliners while others purchased the products of French designers. A number of Australian companies were licensed to reproduce French designs. In very rare cases, Australian women purchased directly from a French couturier's collection. This inverted flat 'saucer' hat is an example of the latter.The Kew Historical Society’s fashion and design collection is comprised of costumes, hats, shoes and personal accessories. This feather hat was donated by Marion Blatchley, a resident of 7 John Street, Kew, a member of the Society, and a collector of vintage fashion items. A numbered label stitched to the interior of the hat identifies that the hat was made in Paris, France. This container is part of a collection of retail packaging, domestic goods, tinplate, made for Bushells, Australia, 1908-1940 In the mid-nineteenth century custom branded tins developed as a tasteful form of advertising. They were often cheap and decorative and found their way into households as gifts, often being kept as ornaments and storage boxes.They have survived well in many homes. This tea caddy is an example of an Australian branded item used in local households. Rectangular metal storage tin printed with scenery of a tea plantation, hills, women carrying baskets and carts. At the top of the front face is the word 'PEEL'. A small cylindrical lid fits on a short neck on the top. Printed around the lid and base is information about Bushells.lid: "Bushells makes 40 more cups to the pound. On bottom: "Net 1lb wt; No.144 - guaranteed under the Pure Food Act; NSW; 1908 by Bushells , Ltd, No.144"

Churchill Island Heritage Farm has a large photographic collection dating from the nineteenth century. This series showcases photographs taken in the 1930s and 1940s and shows people who lived and worked on the Island during the Jenkins period. This photograph was taken in December 1939 and shows Ted Jenkins - the son of the owner of Churchill Island, Harry Jenkinsblack and white photograph with white border showing a man in a wheelchair beside two seated women. The photographer's shadow is visible in the frame, and appears to be taken on the northern side of Amess house.
