Trophy, c. 1984
The "Jack Be Nimble" competition was run as part of Maryborough's annual Wattle Festival.The competition for which the trophy was presented is based on the traditional game of knucklebones or "Jack - Be - Nimble". The now defunct Wattle Festival was a significant feature of the town's cultural life for many years. Varnished wood two- layer base with central pillar, topped with gold coloured knucklebone. Medal was posthumisously awarded to Pte NashRound Medal 36 mm Ribbon 38 mm Brass2200 PTE F N DASH 1 BN AIF (Frank Noel). KIA 6 August 1915 at Gallipoli. Frank Dash was born in Burwood, Sydney. He joined the Army 11/6/15 and was posted to the Gallipoli Peninsular, noteably Lone Pine, 6th August 1915. He was wounded by machine gun fire (neck and shoulder) 7/8/1915. He was transferred maybe to a hospital in Lemnos, but a subsequent Court of Enquiry determined he was KIA. His father's address was Ballarat when plaque and scroll were delivered. -

In February 1913 the Ballarat Junior Technical School opened its doors to its 86 pupils. The old bluestone building in the grounds of the Dana Street Primary School became their temporary for eight years. In its early years the school offered only a two-year course. The first year was of a general nature giving a thorough grounding in Mathematics and Instrumental Drawing, and introducing students to the various branches of trade work. The second-year students studied for the Junior Technical Certificate and specialized in a course of their choice - either a trade (Woodwork or Fitting and Turning) or a course leading to higher studies at the School of Mines. The photograph shows the Albert Steane, the first Headmaster, with other members of Staff outside the Dana Street Primary School where the Junior Technical School first began. Souvenir - BANNER, SILK WW1, c.WW1
Banner was souvenired by Trooper Frank J. Fry, 3rd ALH Regiment No 2315. Trooper Fry also served in the Imperial Camel Corps in Palestine from 1916 to mid 1918 when he rejoined the 3rd ALH Regiment White silk banner featuring the flags of eight WW1 allied nations (Great Britian, France, Belgium, Japan, Serbia, Italy, Russia, Egypt.) The flags surround a raised life buoy over an embroidered anchor. Inside the life buoy is space for a photograph. At the bottom of the banner is a gold coloured rectangular frame housing a coloured print of a naval battle. The banner is topped with "Victory for the Allies."Over an embroidered King's Crown Banner is mounted on cardboard and covered with a clear cellophane Embroidered on top of banner. Slide rules were commonly used prior to the invention of the calculator. The Slide rule was used for performing multiplication, division and other scientific functions up through the 1960s and prior to the development of the electronic calculator. John McLaren Dimmick was the son of Cr William (Roy) Dimmick (1888-1947) and his wife, Myrtle Elvira (nee Monie - 1888-1976). He had brothers Samuel Guy McLaren Dimmick and Frank McLaren Dimmick.Black and white photo of a boy identified as John Dimmick with his prize-winning decorated bicycle on one of the curved paths in the Surrey Gardens. He is dressed in a shirt, tie and jumper. He is holding a bicycle which is liberally decorated and with flags on the handle-bars. A 1st prize certificate is attached to the handlebars.
