Set of two newspaper clippings from The Courier, Ballarat, dated about 14/8/1971, that have been taped together. 1. Titled "Busy day for the trams" featured a photo of Ballarat trams 13, 27 and another single truck at Gardens Loop the previous day carrying school children on special trams. See Reg Item 3764 for actual print of photograph. 2. Titled "Tram driver injured" reports on the injury to SEC Driver Ian Tierney of Skipton St. who was severely injured after being hit by a motorcycle outside the SEC Wendouree Parade depot at 12.55pm the previous day. Twenty four page (24) printed black and white magazine, titled "Headlights, July - August 1970" with a photo of Melbourne 944 on the front cover. Contains an article on the Melbourne Transport Plan for 1985 and "The Tramways of Melbourne" written by John and Andrew Ward. Contains maps, photographs, tramcar roster, drawing of the Melbourne W2, details of the W7's, the St. Kilda Junction project. Also notes other Australian operations including Ballarat and Bendigo. The centre page has an additional duplicated orange page glued into the top of the sheet, from the Tramway Museum Society of Victoria, with a statement concerning the accuracy of the article. Also notes that one of the authors advised that the item had been largely re-written. Yields information about the closure of the SEC operated Ballarat system - presented in an unorganised manner and without newspaper dates.Set of about 5 newspaper clippings glued to a sheet of lined paper. Main cutting titled "Nine trams may be kept in Ballarat", from The Courier Ballarat, 18/8/1971 (can read date through the back paper), about the number of trams to be kept in Ballarat, the BTPS, removal of the overhead. Other cuttings note the provision of bus stops in Ballarat, a hail storm the previous day (Friday 17/8/2005), floods, the derailment of a tram while on a tour for the Ballarat North Technical School, employment of those employees who had been retrenched and two letters re the replacement of the trams, including the aims of the BTPS to operate in Wendouree Parade. Form used to record a summary of the working hours of crews, showing the total hours and the hours worked when one man operation. Gives a list of names at the time when the form prepared. Also used by Ray Hall as a sheet of paper to write out the details of No. 9 run for Sundays as a reference document.Duplicated typed form, foolscap sheet, titled "Summary of daily time sheets - Traffic Department", giving name, total time, one man rate time, and spread of hours. Has a list of employee names in two columns. 3462.1 - Dated 9-5-1971 - has written out on rear of sheet, details of Sunday No. 5 run and details of shift for following week. 3462.2 - Dated 26/6/1971 - Sunday - On rear of sheets, Ray Hall - has used the sheet to write out Saturday 15 run details. Has a number of men at the tram stop. .4 - 14 leaving Bridge St, crossing Grenville St into Sturt St, with destination of City. Has the Dickins and Woolworths Big W store in the background. .5 - 43 at Mt Pleasant terminus with conductor boarding the tram. Tram has destination of Gardens via Sturt St West. In the background is the corner store with adverts for The Sun, Womens Weekly, Coca Cola and Robur Tea. .6 - 43 and 26 Barkly St, about to arrive at the Grant St loop. Photograph of a group of Legatees or Junior Legatees on horses on a polo field in Coldstream. Apparently Melbourne Legacy would have an annual event of a polo tournament. It is not known if it was with the junior legatees or as a social outing for the Legatees. It is possible that it is the same day out as the joyride over Melbourne from a regional airfield (at 01016) if the airfield was in the Yarra Valley. The two photos were together in the folio of photos. In 1873 Teesdale residents formed an institute to provide literature to improve the minds. The site was gazetted on 25 October 1875 – a one acre site on the corner of Bridge Street and Mercer Terrace. A Mechanics Institute was built and later a supper hall was added in front of the institute. The mechanics institute and supper hall was destroyed by fire on the night of 29 March 1969. Letter, Enez Domec-Carre, 1971
A letter from the Secretary of the Victorian Premier's Department dated 23 February 1971 acknowledging the recommendation by President D.J. Simonson that Miss Ena (Enez) Domec-Carre be honoured. The suggestion bore fruit in the Queen's Birthday honours that year and Miss Domec-Carre was awarded the MBE. Miss Domec-Carre joined Melbourne Legacy in 1932 and became the chief instructor of girls' physical education until she retired aged 65. In the post World War II baby boom the Legacy evening classes were attended by about 400 girls. She helped organise Legacy Widows and Legatee wives to sew the costumes for performances. Among her proudest moments was a display by 1000 Junior Legatees at the MCG during the 1954 visit of Queen Elizabeth II. As well her work for Legacy she ran physical education, ballroom dancing and debutante preparation classes in Windsor, Elsternwick, Gardenvale and Geelong.
