Dr. Frances Mary Burke (1907 - 1994) was a textile designer and printer, businesswoman, artist and Australian design advocate and retailer. Burke’s modern abstract textile designs incorporated motifs and colours inspired by Australian Indigenous art, Pacific Island cultures, Australian flora and fauna, English gardens, and the sea and its wildlife. Eugene Carl Sandner was born in Bendigo in 1906. He was associated with the Bendigo and Northern District Base Hospital from 1935 – 1983 including Acting City Medical Officer in 1942 and serving as Medical Officer for 48 years. He was President of the Committee of Management from 1979- 1981. Dr Sandner retired from full time practice as a surgeon in 1971 and was first elected to council in August 1976 and elected Mayor of Bendigo for the 1978 – 79 term. He was the second secretary of the Snowy River Shipping Co. as well as a shire councillor and prominent member of MUIOOF. This chair is believed to have come from the homestead of Dr. Daniel Curdie (1810-1884) who arrived in Australia in 1839. He established a property called Tandarook ten miles south of Camperdown. At first he combined farming with a medical practice as he was the only doctor in the coastal regions between Geelong and Portland. After 1850 he concentrated on farming and exploratory tours of the region. The chair may have been used for some or all of his ten children.This chair is of considerable significance firstly because of its rustic nature and age, being a hand made item and secondly because of its association with Dr. Daniel Curdie, one of the important pioneers of the Western District.This is a hand made wooden chair with two struts at the back and four struts supporting the legs. In February 1984, Dean WM Crosby of ANZCA, admitted Dr. William Derek Wylie to the Honorary Fellowship of the Faculty of Anaesthetists of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Derek Wylie is one of the best known British Anaethetists and during his career devoted much of his attention to medical negligence and its prevention. Mavis Washfold was a member of the Christian and Washfold families of Kew. A musician, she had a longstanding association with the Kew Philharmonic Society. The Society was founded by Dr. Ehrenfeld, c.1946, who was also the Orchestra's first conductor. He was succeeded by Harold Badger in 1954 following the death of the former. During the 1940s and 1950s, the Orchestra played its concerts in the Kew Recreation Hall in Wellington Street. In 1960, the Orchestra relocated to the new Kew City Hall in Cotham Road (the site of the current Kew Library).Kew Philharmonic Society certificate issued to Mavis Washfold giving her life membership in recognition of her service as secretary and member for 36 years. The Bendigo Easter Fair was established in 1871 to fundraise for the hospital and the Bendigo Benevolent Asylum. Annie Mary (Mollie) Sibson was a nursing sister at the Bendigo Hospital in the late 1920's and early 1930's until her marriage to Dr Eugene Sandner in 1933, although Mollie did continue to hold an unpaid position on the Board of Management of the hospital for many years afterwards. Murray Comrie Collection. The Tarnagulla Tennis Club maintained a strong membership right through the late 1890s and well into the 1900s, and the necessity for a second court soon became imperative. Many well-known Tarnagulla residents can be seen in the photograph. Members of the Page, Bool and Comrie families are prominent, and the tall gentleman sitting near the middle of the image is Dr. Donovan, Tarnagulla's resident medico. The two storey house is 'Ardcloney. Dr. William Faulkner, formerly from Queensland, had it built for his residence in 1911. The property also included a garage, which accommodated his automobile and accommodation for his chauffeur. Owners in more recent times were Keith Campbell, who previously owned 'Willowbank' in the old Broadmeadows township and Bill Landeroo a former Victorian State MP. Resinol is used to treat several different types of skin ailments. Resinol was developed by Dr. Merville Hamilton Carter (1857-1939) in his private practice as treatment for his patients in Baltimore, Maryland during the late 19th century. In 1895, Carter, along with his brother Allan L. Carter and his cousin Henry Stier Dulaney founded the Resinol Chemical Company and began to mass-produce the ointment and other medical products. After over forty years of selling Resinol, the company had John H. Buffham & Co. as an outlet in Great Britain and was a successful global distributor. Henry LeRoy Carter Sr., the son of Dr. Carter, began running the company after the deaths of his father and other staff members. The company's sales began to decline in the 1940s, and after the death of Henry LeRoy Carter Sr. in 1951, his son Henry LeRoy Carter Jr. took the place of his father and grandfather as president of the Resinol Chemical Company. At that time, the company focused more on soap manufacturing, but continued to sell Resinol. For the rest of the 20th century, Resinol's popularity continued to dwindle. Dr. Dai Davies presented this Goblet as a gift to the Faculty as the first appointed Burnell-Jose visiting Professor, Postgraduate Committee in Medicine, S.A. May - June 1976. At the time, Dr Davies was the Consultant Anaesthetist St George's Hospital, London and during this event was elected to Honorary Fellowship of the Faculty of Anaesthestists, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. The Burnell-Jose Visiting Professorship commenced in Adelaide in 1975 in honor of Mary Burnell, the first woman Dean of the Faculty from 1966 to 1967 and the first woman President of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists in 1955. Very few women had assumed major anesthesia roles in the world during this period. The Goblet's provenance is supported by an original booklet, which certifies its origin from Chichester Cathedral (1075), Sussex, England. In 1975, a limited edition of 600 goblets were commissioned by the Dean and Chapter of Chichester Cathedral, Reverend Walter Hussey, to commemorate the ninth century of the Foundation. This Goblet is number 46 of the edition and the booklet is signed by Walter Hussey. The Goblet is historically associated with Chichester Cathedral and Walter Hussey, who was a great patron of the arts during the 1970's.Solid silver, with pure gold overlaying the modeled stem and interior of the cup. Trefoil shaped goblet cup with tapering profile. The stem is supported by a sheaf of wheat and bird design. The goblet came in its own case with a booklet of authenticity.
