Edith Marie Bishop was born 27/7/1907 in Bendigo. In 1937 she married Jim Checcucci who died in 1964. In 1974 she married Tom Lunn. Edith' s interest in the history of Bendigo resulted in her being awarded the Order of Australia in 2002. She died in 2009.Bendigo Weekly date unknown. Group composed of 29 men in suits (mostly young), twelve women and two children. Inscriptions: on front - 'GP68, WH Robinson, Photo Bendigo'. On back - 'Boarders 'Toorak' July 1914 Bendigo', RHSV stamp'. History: Prev. Acc. No. GP68. H Mainka (18/11/1999): 'Toorak' Boarding House in Mollison St between Mitchell & Williamson St (railway side). Neville Stilwell owned and Bev Stilwell may still own it. Some plants are in the window and in the front is a sign with *Benknit Sports Wear for men and women, Product of Hanro (Aust) Bendigo Knitting Mills Pty Ltd. In the right window is a display of lingerie with yards of material draped through out the window. At the bottom of the photo is the imprint of the photographer *Bartlett Bros, Bendigo. A small tear at the top middle. The reflections in the windows is of the veranda with a lamp hanging from underneath and trees. Richard Hartley Smith Abbott was the step son of Joseph Henry Abbott and inherited his families business interests, building successful commercial enterprises such as Abbott Supply Co. He was elected a representative in the Mandurang riding in the Shire of Strathfieldsaye in 1887, served as Mayor of the City of Bendigo from 1917 - 1918 and a member of the legislative Council of Victoria. The Bendigo Chamber of Commerce and Industry was constituted in 1886 with the vision to be the single voice for the business community across greater Bendigo. ‘Be.Bendigo’ is the trading name of the organisation ‘Bendigo Business Council’ which was formed in 2008 as a merger between two Bendigo business organisations: The Bendigo Chamber of Commerce and Central Victorian Business Network (CVBN).
