The 8th Battalion was raised from Ballarat & District in August 1914 and embarked for overseas service in October 1914. With the rest of the AIF the battalion trained in Egypt prior to landing at Gallipoli. Method of keeping badges collected from other allied soldiers.Tan webbing belt with German "Gott Mit Uns" belt buckle and 36 buttons and badges on it. There is some white staining on the belt from where someone has previously attempted to polish badges with brasso. Photocopy of a Luther Collage assignment on visits to war memorials and an investigation of Frank Isaac White, a name on the Mitcham War Memorial. White served in Egypt and France,. Maps show the route of his journeys including a period in hospital in England. Information is given about soldiers living conditions and his role as a artillery man. He was killed in Belgium on 20th September 1917 and buried in the Menin Road South Cematery at Ypres. According to his military records, William Collier did not make it to France. After enlisting on 3/04/1915 he went to England.
