A small soft covered book with coloured illustrations titled 'Adam Lindsay Gordon Cottage Folk Museum.' Dendy Park, Brighton, Victoria, Australia. Brighton City Council and the Brighton Historical Society, with the support of the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) are co-operating in a project which will honour the poet Adam Lindsay Gordon. One hundred years after his death they will link this project with the early Australian pioneers. This project will feature - the Gordon Cottage, horse drawn vehicle displays, relic displays, early market garden displays, and an old fashioned shop. An Aboriginal midden will be reconstructed and a collection of Aboriginal artefacts will be included. An appeal for the project was officially launched on the 25th May, 1969. Bendigo Advertiser "The way we were" from 1999. Bendigo Post Office: taken in 1900 this photograph also includes the law courts. The first Bendigo Post Office operated out of two tents on the creek bank in 1852. Inward mail was written on a list and nailed to a nearby tree. With the introduction of the telegraph in 1857 a new building was constructed. This sufficed until the impressive building in the photograph was opened in 1887. Copy of a piece about Richard Hartley Smith Abbott. Abbott was born in Bendigo. He was a hardware merchant, it operated as Abbot Supply Co. He was a director of the Bendigo gas Co, Sandhurst Building Society and Sandhurst Trustees Co. He also helped pioneer tanning in Australia and he had his tannery in Mandurang. He served on the Strathfieldsaye Council and later the Bendigo City Council. He was elected to the Legislative Council in 1907 and in 1932 served as a Senator. In 1887 he was on the committee to establish an art gallery. He served on the School of Mines Council. In 1910, he attended a meeting about Miners' Phthisis in Bendigo. He invested in the Bendigo mines and his firm was a major supplier of various hardware for the mining companies. Jonathan Harris operated a winery on the banks of the Axe Creek, Axedale in the 1850s. A metal pipe three centimetres diameter, 50 centimetres long has a cap screwed to the top which has a one centimetre diameter 13 centimetre long curved tube coming from the side of it. From the top of it a half centimetre diameter metal rod in a triangle six centimetres by nine centimetres by six centimetres pulls out and would have an attachment on to draw out the liquid. It has three legs on the bottom which are three and a half centimetres long, The pot is 25 centimetres diameter on the bottom 13 centimetres high and 30 centimetres diameter at the top, It has a partly curved lid which is three centimetres high and has a one centimetre wide and seven centimetre long handle on top. On top of the shaft is a 'U' shaped metal piece 11 centimetres wide and eight centimetres heigh which holds a three centimetre diameter wooden handle. Jonathan Harris operated a winery on the banks of the Axe Creek, Axedale in the 1850s. A curved wooden shaft two centimetres diameter at the top, five centimetres diameter at the bottom and 150 centimetres long. Two wooden handles three centimetres diameter and 11 centimetres long are attached to the shaft. At the bottom of the shaft a curved metal blade is attached, it's 75 centimetres long and nine centimetres wide at the shaft and tapers to a point.
