Lord Raglan Hotel (‘The Raglan’) built by Strachan 1855 in Unitt Street, was moved to High street. The owners of the hotel included Kilpatricks and Richard Manning. The hotel was a major coach staging point, with large stables to accommodate the teams. Demolished in 1927. This whisky label comes from the bottler of the whisky, Tattersall’s Hotel, Warrnambool. This hotel, at the corner of Liebig Street and Raglan Parade, opened in 1866 and closed in 1996 and was a prominent hotel in Warrnambool during that time. Patrick King was the licensee from 1907 to 1909.This label is of some significance as one of the few labels we have connected to a Warrnambool hotel and one of the few mementoes of a prominent Warrnambool hotel, Tattersall’s. This is a small sheet of paper with gilt edging, lettering in white and black and some decoration which includes leaves and stalks of barley. One corner has been torn away. Humberstone's Royal Hotel was a substantial 2-storey building on the corner of Canterbury and Broughton Road. The hotel was built in 1887 to replace an older hotel (Delany's Hotel) built further east in 1856. It was de-licensed in 1921 after a "Local Option Poll" and became Tower House Day & Boarding School under Miss Marion Beetson from 1922 until 1932. It was demolished in 1932. There were 25 students in the 1920's, mostly boarders from outside Surrey Hills and all primary school students. The school room was detached from the main building and there was 6 acres of playing area. The old bar was the business office, the girls' dormitory the old dining room. Marion Beetson was the teacher, Mary Beetson managed the household. Their father was an Indian Army officer. The younger children wore a school blazer with the T.H.C. badge on the pocket. Miss Susan Kelsall visited to give piano lessons and Prof. Kelsall taught French. Miss Marion Beetson died in Castlemaine on 8 February 1952. A newspaper advertisement regarding the Buxton Hotel in Buxton. Dex and Rosa Brand were the hosts at the hotel at the time of the advertisement. They, along with their children, Colin and Helen, ran the hotel in the 1950s. The Buxton Hotel was built by William Burchall, probably in the late 1870s. The first owner, who also had land locally, was Frederick Nichols (1833-1904). The Buxton Hotel is located directly opposite the General Store. It was fronted with two huge oak trees and bordered and backed by large pine trees. It was a weatherboard structure with a painted corrugated iron roof. Old split wood shingles were covered by corrugated iron, which overlaid the shingles to make the roof watertight. The Bogong Hotel, Tawonga, commenced in 1886 and was burnt down in Dec. 2011. The Crotty, Higginson and Hore families ran the hotel over the 125 years.The Bogong Hotel was 125 years old when it was burnt down in December 2011. It was the meeting place for locals of the Upper Kiewa Valley and was run by local families - the Crotty's, Higginson's and Hore's.
