Newspaper clippings and a photo of Stan Savige's funeral from a file about the life of Stan Savige. The file contained documents pertaining to the creation of the book 'There goes a man' by W.B. Russell (catalogued separately) as well as these newspaper clippings and photo of Sir Stanley Savige's funeral. The newspaper features refer to the portrait by E Buckmaster submitted to the Archibald Prize competition (00634.4 and 00634.5, page 7 missing) as well as to the book (00634.6). A letter of appointment to Miss Enez Domec-Carre outlining duties and remuneration for Chief Instructress of all Melbourne Legacy Girls' Group Classes. Enez was the supervisor of the girls classes held at Legacy House for many years. She organised many annual demonstrations and was held in high regard by Legacy. She was a former Miss Victoria and was known for her physical education skills and for introducing grace and culture to Melbourne. Throughout the year Melbourne Legacy provided classes for Junior Legatees such as dancing, gymnastics, elocution and eurythmics. Boys classes also included basketball, judo, swimming and boxing. A similar one has been used on the Centenary of ANZAC Street Art Mural on the back of Legacy House, Melbourne. The torch that has a gold gilt colour has two screws in the back for attachment. A Beryl Billing and Elaine Ward at Legacy House sorting stamps in 1996. Beryl Billing (seated) was the co-ordinator of the stamp sorting for many years and Elaine Ward was President of the Melbourne Legacy Widows Club in 1996. Beryl would put reports in The Answer showing how much had been raised. With a group of photos about stamp sorting with post-it note "Stamp Ladies Past to 2004". The widows have sorted used stamps and sold to a stamp dealer for many years to the present day. Photos of Legatee Grat Grattan being presented with a 50 years of service certificate from President Chas Wilks in 1989. L/ Grattan was a long serving legatee, an article written when he turned 100 says that as a Legatee he was widely respected, he was 'something of a father figure - many of the girls were given away at their weddings by this kindly Legatee'. The article says Oriel John Grattan was born in WA and enlisted in the First AIF in 1916. He served in France and Belgium before he was wounded near Menin Gate. It continues with an interesting piece on the acquisition of Legacy house. It says: 'Perhaps his most lasting monument is Melbourne Legacy House. Through his friendship with one of the principals of the firm, Brown and Dureau, Legacy was given a donation of 30,000 pounds in 1944 (amount was 27,059 pounds according to Dureau Act).' A condition of the donation was that Legacy had only eight days in which to buy a building. A building in Swanston St was purchased for 18,000 pounds and the balance invested. But vacant possession was not possible and the building was sold in the early '50s and became part of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. The caption of the photo says 'Junior Legatee Jim Illingworth wore an appealing smile as he proudly displayed a Legacy Appeal poster at Legacy House yesterday. The target of today's appeal is £30,000.' He could be the same junior legatee that posed for an image of a Legacy Boy that was printed as a brochure in 1960 with the slogan 'The Legacy Boy, worthy son of a worthy father.' The article was cut from the newspaper and pasted into a scrap book of press clippings. The photo appeared on the front page of the Herald Sun on 6 September 1991 to publicise Legacy Week. The accompanying article says that police piper Constable Ross Bates played outside Legacy House to pipe in Legacy Day, which saw hundreds of collectors spread across Melbourne for the badge appeal. The appeal was aiming to reach $500000 to beat the previous year's total of $467,702.
