Stawell Cycle Club in front of Slattery's Railway Hotel Lower Main Street Stawell 1931 or 1936. Built in Lower Main Street in 1873 opposite Central Pank and the Stawell Athletic Club Rooms. First licensed by W. O Callaghan in 1878. Many others have held this license since. In 1939 it was badly damaged by fire and rebuilt with many improvements. On 24 March 1962 the special train marking the closure of the Colac-Beech forest railway line was again put on by the Australian Railway Historical Society, this time called the "Bye-Bye Beechie". It had G42 as the locomotive, eight NBH excursion carriages with NC guard's vans at either end, pulling a crowd of keen passengers. Special excursion trains until mid-1962.Colour. It was produced in 2009 to mark 150 years of the story of Sunbury's rail history and includes information about Rupertswood Mansion.The railway came to Sunbury in 1859 and was the first regional government railway to be completed in Victoria. \When the railway reached Wodonga from Melbourne on 19th November 1873 the first station building, which included a refreshment room and dining room, was a temporary structure. It was 300 ft. long and was removed and taken to Beechworth when the new station was built in 1874 by contractor J. Richardson. The Goods shed was 100 feet long and was built by Frew & Hill in 1873. One year later it was extended an additional 150 feet by James Nation. The date of the construction of the Locomotive shed is not known but predates 1883. It was a galvanised iron clad building which housed 4 engines on 2 tracks; in 1910 it was extended to 250 feet in length to house six more engines. The location of the railway tracks and station were a constant cause of congestion in the centre of Wodonga as the tracks crossed over Sydney Road (later named High Street). Lines of traffic were frequently banked up as the gates were closed to allow trains to cross. The Wodonga Rail Bypass project moved Wodonga station from the original central location to a position on a new line on the northern edge of the town. Not only did this release land in the middle of the city for commercial and public use, but also eliminated 10 level crossings. The project actually commenced in 2008 with the last passenger train passing through Wodonga on 8 November 2008. On 23 July 2010, the new rail bypass was opened, the original line through Wodonga closed and the station fell quiet. Issued to employees of the VR St Kilda to Brighton electric street railway, superseding previous copies. The line closed in 1956. Note the spelling of the word "employe" with an accent over the e - an acceptable practice in Victoria at the time - a US based spelling. Book scanned into multiple parts. See Reg Item 3508 for a "Supplement to the Book of Instructions re the working of the St Kilda and Brighton Electric Street Railway, dated 1/1/1915", item 7518 for a June 1907 version, and 7580 for instructions issued in 1911.Demonstrates a Victorian Railway Rule book for electric tramways or Street Railways.Rule Book - 156 pages, five sewn sections within a green coloured Rexene heavy card with glued endpapers with the title "Victorian Railways Instructions re Working of the St Kilda and Brighton Electric Street Railway" and "1927" in gold block. Dated 1 June 1926. Has a table of contents and index - gives definitions - "trams" vs "street railways", general instructions, hand signs, working of cars, working of traffic over single and double line, staff and ticket systems, air brakes, permanent way, overhead, fares, appeals of employees against penalty and electric shock.Copy 3 has stamp of the "Westinghouse Brake Inspector" and "Lloyd Rogers" in ink on the inside front cover. The original Mitcham Station was opened on 25th December 1882. Until the 1970s a shunting yard and goods shed existed where the southern car park is now. Tracks remained embedded in the car park for many years. In 1979 boom gates were provided at both Mitcham Road and Rooks Road. From December 2009 to January 2010 Mitcham Railway Station was used as a bus interchange when the realignment of tracks and construction of a new station occurred at Nunawading.
