Installation of Chancellor Sir Archibald Glenn at La Trobe University by Sir Rohan Delacombe, Governor of Victoria. Official opening of La Trobe University in Bundoora on 8th March 1967 by Premier Sir Henry Bolte. Contains background on the development of the university.Celebration of the establishment of the Third University of Victoria. Named after after Charles Joseph La Trobe, Victorias first Lieutenant Governor. It will grow to serve Victoria's North Western Community. These photos were part of an objection to the proposed development and subdivision of part of the historic Banyule Homestead property.The Banyule Homestead dates from 1846, owned and built by Joseph Hawdon, sold in 1867 to Dr Martin. The Partington farm house, named 'Alwyn' (after Alan and Wyn Partington) can be seen north of the Railway Line. Alan and Wyn had to leave this farm in 1976 - moving to a new house - built by son Gary - at 54 Manatunga Circuit - to make way for the creation of Whatmough Park and development of the Hailes Street-The Circuit-Greensborough Plaza precinct.This is an important visual record of Greensborough before the redevelopment of the late 1970's. The Society of Jesus (Jesuits) opened the seminary in 1934. These photographs were part of the advertising for the opening ceremony. The Jesuit Order had a presence on the site from 1934 to 1974 where a house of formation and studies for the Society of Jesus was located (the current Old Loyola building purchased by the College in 2002). This photograph of Greensborough was taken from Delfin Crescent in 2013 to show changes over 40 years, based on Ron Reynold’s sketches in the 1973 publication “Greensborough and Greenhills” published by Cypress Books. Delphin Crescent [previously known as Medhurst Street] was created about 1970 in association with the Delfin Building Company. It was at this time also, that major works on Diamond Creek Road raised the level of the road facilitating the connection of Delfin Crescent with Diamond Creek Road.
