Lynda Tieman and her team at the Port Fairy Historical Society have tentatively identified a number of Henry Christian's photographs of Port Fairy, of which this is one. The two- colour printed certificate advises the member to avoid the use of tobacco and snuff and commits the child to abstain from intoxicating drinks. The illuminated certificate has a prototype Australian coat of arms centred in the lower border. The Band of Hope movement originated in Leeds in 1847. In contrast to the Rechabites it was a children’s movement.
