The pennant designed and cross stitched by Margaret Thorpe to fill in lonely hours whilst Colin Arthur Thorpe was in Vietnam. She presented the pennant to the Currumbin RSL Queensland. In 2018 a small plaque was present to NVVM for the Garden of Remembrance. A cross stitch pennant with the Royal Corps of Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers emblem. John Edward Redmond, was a prominent banker and businessman before entering Parliament as a member for Wexford constituency in 1859; his statue stands in Redmond Square, Wexford town.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Redmond, accessed 21/01/2014) His great nephew, John Edward Redmond (1 September 1856 – 6 March 1918) was an Irish nationalist politician, barrister, MP in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and leader of the Irish Parliamentary Party from 1900 to 1918. He was a moderate, constitutional and conciliatory politician who attained the twin dominant objectives of his political life, party unity and finally in September 1914 achieving the promise of Irish Home Rule under an Act which granted an interim form of self-government to Ireland. However, implementation of the Act was suspended by the intervention of World War I, and ultimately made untenable after the Conscription Crisis of 1918. Made by H E Barry and Son, Brunswick, the soldiers housewife was a portable sewing kit that allowed soldiers to complete running repairs on their uniforms. It included, needles, thread, wool, buttons etc. Barry's also were contracted to provide shorts, shirts and trousers for the army.Soldier's housewife kit in calico bag. The kit comprise: a spoon, a sawing kit wrap in its own cloth with nine needles and three different colours threads (red, white, brown), a razor in its box on the outside Invicta razore manufacturesd by E. M. Dickinson Sheffield England, a shaving brush and a band made of leather for sharpening the razor. -

Augustus Bostock was the 9th child of Robert & Rachael Bostock of Vaucluse Epping Forest, Van Diemen’s Land. He was only 4 years old when his mother died. He was inspired by his father to seek his fortune in the Western District of Victoria. He arrived around 1850. He married Margaret Aitkin in July 1865. Augustus owned several properties in the district and leased others. He sat on the court of Warrnambool, Mortlake or Hexham as required. He resided at Marramook in Hawkesdale and later moved to Vaucluse in Hopetoun Road Warrnambool, where he died in 1920 at the age of 87. He was involved in many aspects of life in the Western District, racing, cricket, and social activities to name a few. This is one of a number of letters from E H Macartney of Delatite station to Augustus Bostock, with this one relating weather, details, sheep and the building of a sheep dip. This is one of a number of documents which relate to the Bostock family who were one of the most important pioneering families of the Western District. They owned and leased various properties around Warrnambool and were involved in many aspects of social and business life.
