The friendly societies of Malvern have formed a medical association in connection with the Malvern and District U.F.S. Dispensary. This has been registered as the Malvern and District U.F.S. Medical Association and Dispensary. Practically all the societies have joined it. The committee has appointed as medical officer Dr. J Weir, who is now carrying on the work of the institution. Another doctor is to be appointed shortly to assist him. The committee lately purchased a property in Valetta-street, formerly used by the Church of Christ. Structural alterations have been made, and the business will be transferred from High-street to the new building early in September'. TROVE : The Prahran Telegraph (Vic. : 1889 - 1930) Friday 23 January 1925 p 6 Article 'Malvern Dispensary. ANNUAL REPORT AND BALANCE SHEET. Clothing. Black suede bracelet length gloves, embroidered with floral motifs in the Beauvais style of embroidery, and as stated inside the right glove, ''REAL BEAUVAIS POINT HAND MADE 927 6/14. Clothing - MAGGIE BARBER COLLECTION: CAMISOLE, Late 1870-80's
Clothing. Fine white linen fabric. A .8 cm 'tuck' edged at top and bottom with a spoke-stitched border, marks the waistline. Below the waistline is a peplum, split at the centre front with 8 cm deep peaks. These peaks are repeated at the centre back. The peplum tapers to 7 cm deep at side seams. The camisole is trimmed at the top edge with a 4 cm deep band of cotton lace. The top edge of the linen fabric has a double row (off set) of cotton embroidered 'spots' 2 mm in diameter, and three rows of drawn thread work - one cm in width, 3.5 cm wide lace form the shoulder straps. The back opening fastens with six tiny 7cm pearl buttons, and hand-stitched button holes. The lower button fastens with a loop at the waistline 1880-90's. A 'fan' of pintucks, arched from 4 cm long at the ends, to 6 cm long at the centre, fans the midriff at the centre front, above the waistline - 28 tucks in total.costume, female, camisole. -

Clothing - MAGGIE BARBER COLLECTION: FOUR LACE COLLARS, Late 1800's
Clothing. Four Collars a. Stand-up lace collar with a shallow scallop at the lower neck edge-6 cm -7 cm deep. Three ''stand-up'' flower motifs and other flat floral motifs form the lace. Five boned and wired casings keep the collar erect. At the centre lower edge fine, cotton fabric is gathered tightly and forms a 10 cm long, fan shaped drop or jabot which in turn has a shield shaped crochet drop 12.5 cm deep with corded and cut-work elements. The stand-up collar is lined with fine cotton net, and fastens at the back with three metal hooks, but no loops are evident. b. Very fine creamy silk (?) stand-up collar. 4.5 cm deep, with a 32 cm deep jabot front. The same lace as the collar, edges the Vshaped front jabot. In the centre of this jabot is a stylized maltese cross, which also features at the front of the collar. No fastenings are visible at the neckline. c.This item is of the same design as 14.b, but is slightly larger.Cream cotton or silk, the collar is 6 cms deep at the centre front, and features a Maltese Cross shape at the centre front of the collar, and the jabot front. Ten floral motifs are spaced around the collar, and the same lace outlines the edges of the jabot front. No fastenings are evident. d. Clothing - MAGGIE BARBER COLLECTION: SILK CREAM BROCADE SHORT CAPE, 1890 - early 1900's
Clothing. Silk-satin brocade cape with 7 cm high stand-up collar. Rounded at the hipline, and curved upward toward the centre fronts, where two 6 cm wide cream ribbon bows are attached. The hemline then falls to a steep 16 cm deep peak at the centre fronts. Four metal hooks and stitch covered metal eyelets form the closure from the high collar to the bustline. Two silk fabric loops on the inside of the opening-19 cms long, and 6.5 cm wide allow the arms to be free, and the cape to remain firmly fitted. The cape is padded and stitched internally in a diamond-shaped pattern. The back of the cape is curved and fitted at the waistline and the centre back. A large satin bow is attached 12 cm above the hemline, and sits over two box pleats 12 cm long, from waistline to the hemline.costume, female, silk cream brocade short cape -

Clothing - MAGGIE BARBER COLLECTION: CRINOLETTE, 1870's
Clothing. Cream polished cotton, full length half slip petticoat. Plackett at the back, fastens with two metal hooks, and hand-stitched loops. The back features a 'crinolette', where two rows of tapes are gathered in to give volume to the back of the garment. As the crinoline started to subside at the end of the 1860's. The centre front panel features 6 angled bands of lace 4.5 cm wide and angled to form a V shape. (1) A 9.5 cm band of pleated linen gauze-like fabric, edged with a 5 cm band of linen lace. (2) A 15 cm double layered frill-top layer 2 cm wide silk like pleats, lined with linen muslin type fabric, and an under frill of polished cotton, pleated in one cm wide knife pleats. The top frill is of fine cream cotton lace. At the top edge is a 3.5 cm wide band of floral cotton lace, and adjoined at the lower edge with a 9 cm deep pleated trim of exquisite cotton "floral and swirls" lace. The top frill is 42 cm wide, and extends over the centre front panel only. A cotton covered " stiffening- possibly bamboo or whale bone, extends 31.5 cm ;long at the crinolette. An unusual 'pocket like bag' is sewn into the right side seam 14 cm below the waist. This has rounded corners, and is 8 cm wide at the top, 17.5 cm wide at the lower edge, which is then rounded slightly. Black, white and red long sleeved ladies jacket. Light weight nylon fabric with lines and shapes forming a geometric design. Front opening with four X 3.5 cm fabric covered shank buttons. Stand up collar with peaked extension on RHS with button hole to fasten top front button. 6 cm peplum with casing at seam joining to main pieces of jacket. Casing contains elastic to shape at waist. Front opening shaped at waist to form opening at peplum. Long sleeves with 5 cm cuffs fastened with two X 2 cm fabric covered buttons.
