This pole was used in the construction of the first Torquay Lifesaving Club clubhouse in 1945. it was dug up by club members from the mouth of Spring Creek, where it had been laid as part of defence strategy during WW2. In the 1940s 'Tank Traps' were placed across low lying Victorian Beaches to stop potential invading Japanese forces. This pole was salvaged from the ashes of the fire which destroyed the first TLSC clubhouse in 1970.This wooden pole was used in the foundations of the first Torquay Surf Life saving Club club house. Belt issued to Japanese Naval Officers up until the end of WW2Black leather belt with a two piece brass buckle. The centre of the buckle has an embossed anchor and lotus flower and the two parts of the buckle appear to have been gilded. It comes with a black leather sword hanger which has brass clips at each end. One end is missing the brass securing rivet whilst the rivet at the other end has a hook attached to it. Attached to this hook is a brass S shaped snake with a brass ring around the body. The inside of the belt has four eyelets and a hook on each end to allow for adjustment. It's missing one sword hanger, a belt loop on the LH side and two loops on the inside that the hangers attach to.world war 2, japanese navy

Japanese Good Luck Flag was given to a soldier and was signed by dignitaries,family and friends often with short messages wishing the soldier victory,safety and good luck. We understand that it was deliberately dyed blue as they had lost the war and surrendered. This flag may have belonged to -Mr Sueji KOMAGI or KOMAKI Silk Dark blue flag with Red sun in middle. Appears to have faded and may have been dyed blue at later stage. Has faded. Many Japanese markings, inscriptions on the front of the flag. Good luck dolls usually given to engaged couples but occasionally give to Japanese soldiers prior to deploying.Takasago dolls or, in English, Darby and Joan dolls. They are a set, the brighter one being an old lady, the other an old man. They were used as engagement presents, but during the war, they were sometimes (actually maybe rarely) given to soldiers as good luck charms, or ‘mamori’. They were said to be lucky as they contained the stitching (sewing) of 1000 ladies, ‘senninbari’ (a thousand ‘peoples’ needles). So mate, the original theory is probably correct. The soldier would have wrapped these dolls in water proof paper (made using persimmon tannin or kakishiba).He would have kept them around his waist in a waist band, called an obi or perhaps a ‘haramaki’ (a knitted stomach band).Anyway the dollls should remain together. I’m wondering if there are any messages inside? But if they are completely stitched closed, then they should remain that way. Following outbreak of WW2 militia regiments including light horse were called up for full time training. The regiment was raised as 13th Light Horse (Gippsland), a Citizen Forces unit. following WWI, and trained as a cavalry regiment till August 1940, when it converted from horse to mechanised initially as 13th Motor Regiment then 13th Armoured Regiment.
