From an email from Robert Green, 19-08-2021 - advised "The Herald of 10 May 1935, p.4 has the following little paragraph : Cable Tram Tableau Entitled “Transport Cavalcade”: Horse-laughs - real ones – were heard today when a team of horses, drawing a lorry upon which was a dis-used cable tram dummy sporting “Collins Street” upon the front and “South Melb Beach” at the rear, passed along Swanston Street. Neddy’s superiority complex at seeing out these early manifestations of our mechanical age was heightened when the front wheel of a nearby motor-truck fell off." Black and white reproduction of a photo that appeared in the Melbourne Sun News Pictorial, 6 November 1923, of the aftermath of the fire at the Zoo horse tram depot. Has workers wheeling wheels. The Timeline history of Melbourne trams - Barry George et al, dates the fire as 4 November 1923, during the Police Strike. Four horse tram cars were destroyed as a result. The photo has mounted onto a Norman Co. cardboard tag using an adhesive substance. Sheet of leather, approx. 2mm thick, stained brown with four pockets formed on each side with another sheet of leather, stitched with dark brown cotton, on all sides to form pockets to hold eight blocks of tickets. Used by Ballarat or Bendigo Conductors until early 1970's to hold stocks of tickets prior to sale. Collected by Travis Jeffrey at an unknown date. See Reg. Typed letter from Keith Kings of the TMSV, Secretary to Mr Denmead, Tramway Supt dated 9/3/1962, asking to charter a tram for the purpose of sound recordings on Friday 16/3/1962. Asks for the use of trams 17, a bogie tram, and the scrubber and nominates the proposed routes. Mr Charles Craig will do the recording.
