Thomas Couch Watts c. 1865 - 30/10/1914 was a Bendigo Real Estate Agent, initially in View St and later at 253 Mitchell Street. He married Alice Maud Glasier in 1888. His son Raymond Leigh Watts b. 1894 was admitted as a partner in the business in 1915 when he qualified as an Insurance Agent. Raymond died in 1929 aged 35. Thomas became an auctioneer and Real Estate Agent c. 1904 after initially running a book and stationery store in View Street with his brother Edward. Thomas and his family resided at "Ottawa" in Rowan Street, Bendigo.Green hardcover ledger book. The ledger has 354 pages and it lists the name, addresses and the amount of rent received. Small folded dance card which belonged to Jean Jones. Cards were for the City of Bendigo Mayoral Ball, June 4th 1964, by The Mayor & Mayoress Cr. A. S. & Mrs. Craig. Cards are white with blue printing. At the top is the City of Bendigo crest. Mayoral Ball is printed in gold. Each card has a blue cord attached and one has a small blue, red and white pencil attached to the cord. On the inside is the names of twenty dances and five of them have the name of a partner written beside them. Nicholas Caire was born on Guernsey in the Channel Islands in 1837. He arrived in Adelaide with his parents in about 1860. In 1867, following photographic journeys in Gippsland, he opened a studio in Adelaide. From 1870 to 1876 he lived and worked in Talbot in Central Victoria. In 1876 he purchased T. F. Chuck's studios in the Royal Arcade Melbourne. In 1885, following the introduction of dry plate photography, he began a series of landscape series, which were commercially successful. As a photographer, he travelled extensively through Victoria, photographing places few of his contemporaries had previously seen. He died in 1918. Research provided by Stuart Tompkins Studio, Box Hill, into alternatives for median strip street lighting to be used in Burke Road, Kew. The photographers identified variants in different suburbs appropriate to Kew's needs. The series from which the photograph is drawn provides a snapshot by a commercial photographic studio of each named vicinity in 1965 as well as providing examples of public works infrastructure being commissioned by local government in the 1960s. The photos originally formed part of the Engineering Department's files in the City of Kew before being donated to the kew Historical Society.Electricity Supply Poles, Warrigal Road, Holmesglen, 1965. Stuart Tompkins Studio provided this photograph for the Kew City Council. The photograph of Warrigal Road, north of Holmesglen looking north depicts wooden poles with bracket light fittings. These were the same as those proposed for Kew, except the lights and fittings were not to be 350 watt. Mercury lamps were preferred. Research provided by Stuart Tompkins Studio, Box Hill, into alternatives for median strip street lighting to be used in Burke Road, Kew. The photographers identified variants in different suburbs appropriate to Kew's needs. The series from which the photograph is drawn provides a snapshot by a commercial photographic studio of each named vicinity in 1965 as well as providing examples of public works infrastructure being commissioned by local government in the 1960s. The photos originally formed part of the Engineering Department's files in the City of Kew before being donated to the kew Historical Society.Electricity Supply Poles, Warrigal Road, Holmesglen, 1965. Stuart Tompkins Studio provided this photograph for the Kew City Council. The photograph of Warrigal Road, north of Holmesglen looking north depicts wooden poles with bracket light fittings. These were the same as those proposed for Kew, except the lights and fittings were not to be 350 watt. Mercury lamps were preferred.
