Extract Hansard, Legislative Council, 2/10/1968, titled "Ballarat and Bendigo Tramways - Proposed Abandonment". Sir Percy Byrnes moved that the proposed abandonment by the SEC be not made. Pages 471 to 494 reports on the speach by Sir Percy, I.A. Swinburne who seconded the motion, V.O. Dickie who opposed the motion for the Government. Others who spoke were , F. J. Granter, F.S. Grimwade, J.M. Tripovich. The Motion was supported by the Country and Labor parties who had the numbers in the upper house. Provided by Colin Homes. .1 - dated 1/2/1889 to G. Perry Town Clerk Ballarat, from Constable Hanigan, reporting on a conversation with Mr. Moore, confirmed by Constable Hickey about the capacity of the tramcars and the need for licenses for them and the drivers and conductors. Moore replied that the roads belonged to him? and that he could tell Perry to go to hell. .2 - Letter or note, advising Mr. Perry, from Hanigan as cab inspector, that 15 of the cars would accommodate 40 people, 18 inside, 20 outside + 2 conductors and that two would accommodate 46 adults, 20 inside, 24 on top and 2 conductors. Set of A4 photocopies of 15 years of annual reports of The Electric Supply Company of Victoria Limited from 1920 to 1934. Most of the reports comprise three sheets - Directors Report, left hand side of the Balance Sheet, Trading Account and Profit and Loss Account on the right hand side. Some reports have a statutory declaration by the Manager and Secretary that the reports submitted are a true copy of the report. Items .1 to .12 detail the number of lamps connected, passengers carried and trading account for the last three years. This practice stopped when ESCo sold the company to the SEC but continued to manage it for a further four years. The Directors report from 9/1900 note the forthcoming sale of the company to the British Insulated Wire Company Limited and the problems of finalising the sale. The last report 9/1902 is typed, and lists assets and credits only on the profit and loss account.
