This type of bayonet was used by infantry Rifle Regiments of the British Army and by Infantry Battalions of the Australian State Defence Forces in the 1890's; then by some infantry battalions of the Australian Army especially in a ceremonial roleThere is no record found of this type bayonet frog in use by 4th/17th/19th Light Horse Regiments. When Australia joined World War I men were encouraged to enlist to help Australia aid their 'mother country' Britain in the war against Germany. Many men volunteered often joining at the same time as their friends from the same district, all over Australia.Bert Roper and Stewart Hollonds came from families living in the Kiewa Valley. 1440 The 13th Light Horse Regiment (AIF) was raised t Broadmeadows Victoria in March 1915. Following service at Gallipoli the regiment was broken up with squadrons going to France as Divisional Cavalry Squadrons of 2nd, 4th and 5ht Divisions.
